I like that chain drive number! Here's a horse drawn Ford, in Holland. Photo dates to May, 1941. If you look closely, you'll see the driver is in, not just on, the car.

Here are a few I have found:

A shiny new Haynes, A big Marmon 6, a '14 White GAF-30, a garage in the 'teens, a day at the races, City streets..NY or D.C. I think, a 1920 Briggs-Stratton "Flyer". My buddy Chris (powerwagonmaniac) built an awesome replica of the Flyer that we converted to chain drive....will do 45+ mph :D

Great photo of the Sheepshead Bay track. Looks like there might have been some motocycle racing that day.

That's what I was thinking too, judging by the V-twin Indian board tracker in the foreground.

I did a quick check of my record's, there were a series of amatuer races that same day which explains the earlier model motocycle.
    Thanks for the photo.

I guess this was just another day on the boards. Look close and you can see the splinters poking out of their backsides.:D

As we head into the 4th, a flag shot is timely. Here's a White steamer, with no headlamps. Oregon State Univ. photo.

The A. O. Smith Company bought the manufacturing rights to the Wall Motor Wheel in 1914. The A. O. Smith Company then produced the Smith Motor Wheel for use on American made bicycles and a Cyclecar called the Smith Flyer. The Smith Motor Wheel was a single cylinder air cooled one horsepower engine that sold for $60.00. The Smith Flyer sold for $135.00 and was equipped with the Smith Motor Wheel.

The Smith Motor Wheel could easily be attached or fitted alongside the rear wheel of bicycles started then lowered to the ground to go forward. The same producure was done with the Smith Flyer. Over 60,000 Smith Motor Wheel were sold for use on bicycles and on the Flyer.

In 1920, Briggs & Stratton acquired the patents and manufacturing rights of not only the Smith Motor Wheel but the Smith Flyer Cyclecar. Briggs & Stratton then re-designed the Smith Motor Wheel into a one cylinder air cooled engine with two horsepower. They also redesigned the Smith Flyer into the Briggs and Stratton Flyer. Sales of the Briggs and Stratton Motor Wheel also included use on American bicycles.
