Customs STOP sayin' '38 fords are ugly. My 5W project sixties kustom.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Coke-bottle, Apr 1, 2010.

  1. I personally think they are ugly as ****.

Never the less I really like ****. They are the perfect rod fodder or custom in your case.

I think I read somewhere that it wasn't looks the the rodders didn't like. It had something to do with a lack of power in a car that is fairly heavy as compaired to say a 30 coupe.

Anyway they are ugly but some of us like ugly.

Very cool build so far. As far as your metal working skills.... I love it when a guy realizes he needs to hone his skills.... and just dives in head first. Your skills are top notch and increasing from there.

I agree with the others that perhaps the caddy tail lights (or perhaps their placement) just seem out of place.

    Looking forward to updates.

'38 Fords ugly? NO WAY!!! I've got a '38 Deluxe that will end up looking like a poor boys edition of Ryan's coupe. This will get it on the road to enjoy. Long term it will get a 585 hp 9:1 355/ Doug Nash 5 spd/9" and we'll try to duplicate Ryan's video of him pulling out of his driveway.

THANKS for the support @ all.

@ striper, not lot of metalshaping skills, I only rebuilded my charger '70 trunk but is 90% stright metal. I only have familiarity with sheet metal.. maybe in my previous life I was a metalshaper :D anyway I do what I can. Trial and error rule.

@ all who sayed 59 cad tail don't fit, I want to put aside this project for 2 or 3 week, first of all I want to ultimate the mock up of the ****** / engine. After I make the front end 100% custom and when the look is near the end I consider another set of tail or simply remove a pair like my avatar.

    I post the progress soon!

I agree that the 38 deluxe nose is ugly , and is a "wtf!" but the standard is cool deco...
Ive been hacking on my 38 standard coupe for the last few years, and it's just about ready for it's madin voyage....it's not done..but im driving it to my club's show (Strangers CC S.J. CA....JULY 11)
These cars are overlooked gems! Some one put up some pics of a club coupe that had a photo-shop chop...and it looked great!
They have a bunch of potentail and are still cheap........and why dont we hear bad stuff about 37's...basicly the same car?!?!
    ud..out

Actually, both the '37's & '38's were originally called "Ugly Ducklings" back in the day.
However, things have changed with the scarcity of real Henry steel and open minds.

Nice metalwork, Luca; the tail lights may have to "grow" on me, though. "58-60 Corvette t-lights would look less con****uous and not interrupt the extended flow of the fenders and tailpan ( .....but maybe that's not the point.)

Good Lord this is going to be a sweet looking 38. There must be something in the water over there, seems like Europeans can put a hammer to a piece of metal and it comes out right.

Coke Bottle, nice work, the Cadillac tail lights do look good, I really like the way you staggered them to match the flow line of the rear fenders..
    Keep it up..

I'm impressed with your vision and your bravery in taking on such ambitious work without the experiance of years and years of metal working skills.
I love the suicide doors and the way you set out and acheived a good looking roof chop. This car would really suit a long engine such as a V12. Jag?
I'd like to second 'howco' I too like the tail lights. Some have commented on the Deco aspect in the styling, however I like the notion of using the Caddy lights for this reason; in the 1950's the Art Deco style was reinterpreted this style is now known as Deco Revival. I like the elegance of using the cl***ic Deco style with the revival style.
If you are sensitive to the critique of some 'stylish' Hambers then perhaps you could remove one pair of lights or reposition the lights, but, the lights per-se work for me.

I just had another thought, who are any of us to tell an Italian about style? Italians are synonymus with style in everything they do.
