Incredible shot. If I remember correctly, when this was demolished to make way for a new bridge, the demolition guys found out much to their surprise just how well built this was. Things did not quite go according to plan...

I posted this photo on the left recently from Australia. I just found the second photo which positively identifies the car that I thought was a US make as a 6-70, 825 CI, double chain drive, Thomas-Flyer.

I would still like to know what is the make of the high wheeled bus.....

  9. Before radar these were used to listen for approching aircraft, then the guns in the back did the rest.

This is a picture of about a 1908-10 6-70 Thomas-Flyer Touring car like in the post just above the aircraft listening horns . This car is pictured in Salt Lake City and is wearing a standard 7-pass. body instead of the Torpedo body as the Australian car has.

To give you an idea of how large these cars are, they have a 140" WB, the hood is 49" long and the crankshaft is 54" long.

Remember, on a holiday weekend the state police are out in force to help make sure everyone is safe. Unless of course, they should get distracted...

Hmm. I suspect you know where this race was.

Happy 4th of July to you and all of my great American friends.

Thanks kurtis. Here's what might be a Phelan & Moore, which would mean more to you than it would to us colonials.

The Kelsey Motorette has been on my Top 12 cars I want to own since I saw one in the early 1960's. The fact that it was made here in Connecticut is the main reason I think. It was the first small car to drive cross country Hartford, Ct. To San Francisco, a total of 5,041 miles. Made with quality parts from suppliers that also made parts for ALCO, Packard, Cadillac, Chalmers, Pierce-Arrow, Simplex, Stevens-Duryea, Matheson, and Locomobile, it was good assembled car. What killed it was casting sand in the Lycoming engines that caused enought to be returned for repair that the word got out that the cars had problems. The fact that Ford offered FOUR wheels for the same or less money didn't help either.

I think they tried to blow it up, but when the smoke cleared the bridge was still there.

I live fairly close by and it took many tries to blow it up, but it would not come down so they had to cut it up.

    So much for being unsafe.......
