We did evos on the f3 Lolas at Jim Russell racing unlike my former employer I suggest you: remove the turbo, run pectel ecu, a pilot bearing and a single plate clutch. Biggest challenge is mating the gearbox, choose wisely, for road worthiness. They are somewhat heavy blocks for racing. Avoid Haltec ECUs they are poorly constructed.
2.2, 2.5 Mopar all the way. Easy to rwd, they came in Dakota pickups w/ a 5 speed. They came carbed or TPI, or turbo EFI. I'm helping a friend build his 87 Shelby Charger w/ a 2.2 T3, twin cam, big boost etc. 85% done, hope to run next month. 2.3 from a Ford Ranger is another option or 2.3 Turbo Coupe Thunderbird. BTW, just do EFI, take all the pieces from doner car.
I don't know if this is the same enrine as the Izuzu mentioned earlier, but in the uk the Vauxhall/Opel "Red Top" 2.0 litre twin cam 16v is very popular kits are available for mating to a ford T5 box This engine can produce close to 200 bhp without major spending (2x45DCOE WEBBERS) Another alternative is the Ford Duratec / Zetec engine I imagine this is available in America. Check out this site http://www.burtonpower.com/Default.asp
Oops I should have added that these engines are the most popular for Lotus Seven style cars in the UK converted to RWD using the Sierra 5 speed box.
http://C:\Users\Peter\Pictures\10 Camaro & Sk My wife's sky has a pretty ballsy 4 banger with RWD & they come with a Manual trans.........
I'm building a Model A Huckster and was looking for something different for power. Pulled a 1.8 SOHC with a 4 speed from a 1975 Ford Courier. Bought an Offy intake set up for a Weber downdraft. Petronix ignition, reground cam, lightened flywheel, balanced and a larger oil pan. Compared the Courier with a '31 Tudor and the specs are almost the same. Big difference is HP, Model A is 40 HP and the 1.8 SOHC is 119 HP before modifications.
Nissan's KA24 3 valve engine was built by the millions in FWD and RWD (240sx and trucks). Can easily be converted to carbs and computer-free ignition.
me too, he is missed... now the newbs that don't read through the thread and reply anyway tickle me a little.... RIP C9....
I was kicking around putting a late 60s or early 70s Datsun 510 engine in one of my bellytanks..durable and run great and fast and can be bumped up to make great Horse power. Weber carbs. I saw a Model A with one in it and they even installed air and a 5spd with juice brakes, otherwise it looked stock and was way too fast! should have bought it for the 4500 bucks
I would go with the Ford 2.0L Duratec/Zetec engine. They have been used for years in the Focus,******* ZX2, Fusion, and Mercury Milan. Plenty of go fast parts available. There is even a Midget Open Wheel series running these engines.
ok I'll get reamed for this but Honda Vtec from the S2000. Stock 240 HP, with a close ratio 6 Speed. A friend of mine uses them in Lotus super 7 replicas he builds. 0-60 in 3.5 sec
i heard of a guy using one in a bonneville car that went 200+.....guy said it still had the stock wiring harness all....
Yeah, I'm surprised no one has brought this little gem up before. The 2.4 has vvt and that makes the computer issue raise it's head in a major way, but the 2.2 ecotec is a little easier. Most are fwd but they are dead simple to turn fore and aft and will bolt up to the Solstice 5 speed. Getting hp is just a matter of $$, the more you pay the more you get (like that's different?).
