I began reading your post before you made it to LARS. Recognized your car from your post, but you were off to the swap meet. Glad you all made it home safely.

Ok I left you on Sat afternoon. We left the show at 4:00. Everyone started to put car covers on at that time so we thought it was over. Didn't remember the free bbq. Stupid Stupid Stupid. Took the kids to Red Robin.

We left the cars at the show but we knew we had to be back early again on Sunday...we had an appointment....

(for some reason these pics came out small? You will get the idea though)

    First the 25 Dodge

    Then the 33 Ford
    [IMG]

    Then the sled

Around 11 Jim decided to head home. He went through Utah and Colorado. 15 mpg with a dual four 427...not bad.

    Mug line.

    Mugs!

    Yep! we got it.
My son ask me ... Dad is that a cup? I said yea, kind of I guess.

He said...SO I can drink out of it then? I said well.....yea, if you want to.

    He said ....Cool...

    Too funny.

    Driving out of the show.

    Back at the hotel

We needed to get everyone home in a hurry (kids have baseball, wife has job, I have a business to run......) so Cory and I put both cars in the trailer and packed all the tools for a quick jaunt 1/2 way across the country.

Dropped the families off at the airport at 7:30 Monday morning

We got out of LA by 9:00 and hauled *** east. Vegas
    [IMG]

Utah. I had never driven on this highway. It is a beautiful drive and it ****ed to have my car broken down in the trailer but I still enjoyed it.

Missed the Welcome to Colorado sign but I got it on the gps
    [IMG]

Stayed at Grand Junction. Got there about 10:30

Mountain p***es let us know we were towing two cars in a trailer

    A welcome sign... almost home

We got back to Ellis at 4:55 Tuesday afternoon.

Well, That is the trip...but I have a few more things to say.

First thanks to my Wife for being on board with this. She is better than I deserve!

Second, thanks to Lance, Kyle, Allen, Ernie, & Glyn. Bad *** car builders that work for me and put in a lot of time after hours.

Third Jim and Cory and their families.... great people to travel with. It would not have been near as much fun without you guys.

Fourth ChevyGirlRox...Megan, the pics you took traveling down I 70 last year got to me. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=377711

I have been so busy building my business I have not stopped to do anything in years. I saw the I 70 pic and said ...****! they drove right past me with in a mile of where I was working and went on to the roadster show. What am I waiting for????

I was gone for 10 days.... that is the most days I have gone with out working since I was a kid.

I have been on the HAMB for quite awhile. I don't post too much stuff here, but I wanted to do this to repay Megan for the time she spent on her three post that got me off my ***!

If I drove past you... you have around 340 something days to get there... figure it out and post your trip!

I will leave you with two pics

    Next

And this one (my favorite road pic of the trip) Somewhere on the road... turned the radio off, my wife in the p***enger seat, very little traffic, hum of the quickchange, mellow exhust tone of a bad *** olds, this took my mind to a place that it had not been in a long time.... young again!

Thanks for sharing this vacation with us as I've been to several LARS events but never with my own car and some day.... just some day... I will!

WHERE the hell is Riga, Kansas...??? I must drive by your town several times a year...!!! Prolly will in late July on the way to the LeadSled Nats in Salina...

Been on all those roads you were just on, not once but several times...NOTHING like seeing America thru the windshield of a hot rod, kustom or plain old car...!!!

Great trip, great coverage...NOW, plan on the next one, right now, blok out the time on a calandar, inform the family "we're going again," cuz if you don't, you'll spend another bunch of years in your shop and miss all the great family hiway experiences...and your kids will have something to remember when "Dad took us in the hot rods to...", especially when they have kids...and that time will come all too soon...!!!

Riga is a grain elevator five miles west of Ellis. I grew up on the farm that is closest to the elevator. I live in Ellis now, 12 west of Hays. If you are driving down I 70 get off at the Ellis exit and drive down main to the stop light. My building is the white one that says Alloways in blue letters. It was an old gas station, greyhound bus stop, cafe, and Ford dealership over the years.

The 33 is the next road trip car.

Hey JeffSled, I don't know who had the couch. It was a little pricy if I remember right I think $3750? Looked like it would take some work to make it though, and they did do a nice job. Didn't take a pic of the side with the sign.

BCR ... great thread! ... I've been following it since you started it ... and stumbled upon it again today ... just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to share your family vacation/trip with us ... your adventures (& mis-adventures) brought back great memories of my childhood (all of our summer trips & vacations were centered around Hot Rods) ... I'm sure your kids will have nothing but fond memories of their 2010 "Hot Rod Vacation"! :)

Hey, I know those guys! ... that's long time family friend (and HAMB lurker) Roger Garcia standing next to my neighbor (and 200 MPH Club member), "Jet Car John" Paxson (in the straw hat).

Thanks for all of the pictures and great commentary. It is SO good to see a family out enjoying their hot rods together! My parents used to take us everywhere with them- whether it be in hot rods, regular cars, trains, or planes! It was all of those great trips early in my life that planted the adventure seed in my soul.

I'm glad my trip inspired you to hit the road. I learned a long time ago-- work will always be there when you get back :D

G'day , thanks for taking the time to do your post , I was at LARS as well and was inspired by that same post to come over , it was well worth it and as you say , you need to take the plunge and just do it ,
I think the kids will remember this for a long time to come , especially the ocean for the first time .

Well done and thanks again , Cad

  26. Hey Cad... How was your trip?

This was going to be the year I was going to take the Roadster to this show but things happen and I'm glad to see what Mike has done and the car was involved in this adventure!

I am going to bump my thread with an update.

The blue 33 Roadster we built for Jim was in Street Rodder in the April issue.

Thanks to Tim Bernsau for a great experience. It sure was fun to watch the photos

    http://www.streetrodderweb.com/features/1104sr_1933_model_a_roadster/index.html

The Black 25 Dodge that Cory owns is in this months issue (June) that just showed up in the mail.

Josh Mishler came out to the thriving metropolis of Ellis to take the pics and it was a good time. Good lunch and cruisin around looking for a spot to take the pic in the my roadster was a fun time. Thanks Josh

Here are a few threads on the Dodge.

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=460328

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=426777

In the write up they did not mention Tuck. I took some design elements off of the t-shirt that Tuck designed for me and used it on the roadster.

So.... Tuck, this is a public thank you for the design on the truck. Thanks!

I thought this info would fit in with this thread.
