He has owned it for many years. It's his daily driver and, although rebuilt a number of times, it runs standard mechanicals.
I'm not keen on the look of the checkerplate step-side. The step-side was built to accomodate the dual rear wheels. The dual rears, from a F350 (?) were required to give sufficient traction to pull his "old and heavy" 23' Sharkcat out of the water.

  2. Oh bummer..lol. Well gasser would be cool and easy. Just show her pics of some built gasser style and maybe she will come around.

Here's my 1962 Unibody shortbed that is waiting its turn in the shop. Good rustfree body except the gate, no engine or trans. I love horse power but in this case I am thinking about trying to see how much gas mileage I can get out of one of these so I can use it as my daily driver. Wife wants me to buy a new truck but this would be alot more fun to drive and appreciate instead of depreciate. I've got a custom grill and lights to put in it plus some '57 caddy caps so I'm looking to go the nostalgia custom look. Any ideas on economical engine and trans combo's?

how 'bout ford's V-6 (the one that SHO Taurus's used and the "regular detuned" version)? they can be used in a front to back setting. one of the ford trannys works. it's either the ranger or aerostar van. i can't remember all the details, but i'm sure that some folks on here can fill in the details.

anyway, you could use the entire fuel injection setup and overdrive trans and get pretty decent mileage. you wouldn't be able to pull a 8,000# camper, but you can't pull big loads and get mileage too. you gotta choose one or the other; and it sounds like you've already chosen.

My old '56. I couldn't afford to get it to NC when I moved here so I left it with an old friend in MD. Wound up just giving it to him after I got laid off last year. Figured at least this way someone can fix it instead of it just rotting away in his yard....

You can use a regular F-100 door, you just have to cut the corner out like the COE door is.
