Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Cliffy, Jun 14, 2010.

  1. I guess it is time to start a NEW thread for the Symco Shakedown. The 2009 show pic thread is still going strong! Some of you are going to hate me for starting new, but it has to be done sooner or later! At the time I write this it is only 60 days away!!!

We didn't change much for this year. It will still have the nostalgia feel as last year. We have made some updates to our VIP parking area, the main vehicle entrance is changed and we have a few more goodies for you to see!

THIS IS 112% A RAIN OR SHINE EVENT!!! BANDS INDOORS.

******All NOT-street legal, trailered race cars get FREE vehicle admission this year******* We will have a special parking area for race vehicles - you must let us know your coming to get preferred parking and free admission. We have plenty of parking for trucks/trailers.

Open to ALL show vehicles, but the main show area is for 1964 and older Traditional styled Hot Rods, Customs, Cycles and race cars. VIP parking in the rear of the grounds for other show vehicles.

***NEW THIS YEAR, ALL SHOW VEHICLES ENTER OVER A 1920's TRESTLE BRIDGE ONTO THE GROUNDS***

****WE ARE GIVING AWAY A FLATHEAD FORD ENGINE SPONSORED BY EGGE MACHINE AND JACK MEYER. VALUED OVER $7000!!! Proceeds go to charity****

Pricing changed slightly. It is actually less expensive this year if you come by yourself with a vehicle and camp. Everyone purchases a $10 weekend wristband. Addl...$10 vehicle admission, $10 swap spaces, $10 weekend camp spaces. Commercial vendors are $75,

BIGGER AND BETTER entertainment for 2010! Acoustical acts all weekend in the Union Still; Meaghan Owens, Woodshop Band, Pearls Mahone and the One Eyed Jacks and MORE! 8 Bands in the Dance Hall! DEKE DICKERSON, Kevin Fayte Rock and Roll Trio, The Afterdarks, The Magnetos, Pearls Mahone and the One Eyed Jacks, The New Directions, The Rockin' Bones and The One Night Standards!!!

Watch the HUGE vintage Morris Fairbanks industrial engines run! Pistons as big as a 5 gallon pail!!!

See dozens of antique buildings and THOUSANDS of items of petrolina and old farm machinery.

$1 tap beer, $5 pitchers in the bar on the grounds. $2 canned beer and $1 soda elsewhere on the grounds. Great inexpensive food! THREE Taverns(2 with food) literally yards from the front gate!

Read an article by John Gunnell about the 2009 show in Old Skool Rodz #40 page 24. See our ad in issue #41. There is also an article from Chadly Johnson in OSR #41 that had the photos shot Sat on the Symco grounds last year!

MINI BIKE DRAG RACES SAT AT 11AM!!

Roller derby girls in the dunk tank!!!

    AND MUCH MUCH MUCH MORE!!!

Check out SYMCOSHAKEDOWN.COM for more info! ...or to pre-register! If your coming, PLEASE pre-register. We use these funds for insurance, printing and everything else that makes the show better! We are average folks with a small budget and VERY much appreciate the great people who pre-register!
We ALWAYS need volunteers. If you would like FREE admission and a cool Symco shirt, sign up on the link in my signature below!! We can't put on a good show without GREAT volunteers! We only ask for you to work for a minimum of 2 hours.

  3. ... and there will be NO RAIN this year!!! :)

  4. There is a confirmed rumor that American Pickers from the History Channel will be shooting a show at the Symco grounds this coming Saturday. They still could cancel, but it looks like it is about a 90% chance they will be here. How cool is that!!

  13. So it is official. American pickers shot a show yesterday. I may even have the Lincoln on the show. Mike Wolfe thought it was cool and kept asking me what it was worth. Here are some pics. Watch for the show to air this fall/winter. Mike and Frank are SUPER standup guys. They are very, very nice...most of the camera crew, not as nice.

I think I win the contest for the coolest photo with Symco stuff. How about a Symco sticker on the picker's van? Can I win my own contest?

you invited them to the show..?!

  16. I gave them a poster and a couple Symco T-Shirts and let them make up their own minds if they wanted to come. Sounds like Mike Wolfe and his buddy are big rockabilly fans and Mike sat and read the entire poster and commented that he knew about half the bands we had coming. They actually saw the Afterdarks perform in the last month I guess. I wouldn't put it past them if they showed up in Aug. They seemed pretty pumped about it.

  19. So Cliffy, What was happening in Symco Saturday night? Did you make it there?

  20. of course I did. I was in Symco three times this weekend. Thursday we went to Gunner's party then to Boondocks for pizza. Sat night we came back to Boondocks for more pizza and then one of the Threshermen had a party just outside of town. I stopped again for lunch on the way home on Sunday.

  23. This is the famous Boondocks Pizza we all talk about. One large supreme feeds 5-6 people and is only $20. It weighs about 5 lbs.

Utterly worth every delectableness, palatability, lusciousness, sweetness, tastiness, scrumptiousness bite ..... major project how do we bring home pizza to share? Somehow, someway we WILL!!

  26. Okay, so who is going?

We need to set an official date and time for the Meet and Greet. It obviously will be in the bar on the grounds, what time does everyone want it? I think we did 2pm on Sat last year.
