The silver 21 dirt modified is driven by Oliver Butler, car owned by Fred Menchner of Morrisville, Pa. This car was wrenched by Tom Carberry for a while.

Ray Neary drove the 21 also, Fred and Ray are best friends. Ray took a break from the modifieds

The track is East Windsor Speedway, N.J.

  3. I can't say for sure myself Denny but I did get around a lot when I published my Rod & Custom magazine and I was up in your area enough times.

If you ever made any of the Old Timers Meets at Riverhead, we might have.

The red 300 shown being driven by S J Evonson, I bought in the early 70`s as my first race car and I raced it at Plainville as the Seven crown. It was built by Gig Smith of Windsor Locks CT and he raced it at Riverside Park. When I got it it was being raced at Monadnock. I bought it complete, race ready with a 292 SBC, trailer and a rack full of tires for $800.00 !!! I sold the car the next year but used the trailer for many years. When we picked it up, Dale Holdridge let me use his truck, at the time I just got out of high school and was on his crew. His son Mike now races in the MRS series. John

As I recall Dan Jivanelli ran that 12 car for the first time around '74-'75. That probably makes him about 22. I think Greg still had the coupe when he was that young.

Just wanted to know if there is anyone that is a part of H.A.M.B. that is from the Sioux Falls South Dakota area. there is so much history from the early years at Husets Speedway. I grew up in that area ans attended races ever week for 20 years. I have some treasured pictures and would love to share them. Husets developed quite a few great DIRT TRACK KINGS. Doug Wolfgang to nane one. If anyone would like to share pictures and stories let me know. Oh the fond memories of the early years at Husets Speedway.

How would you like to walk through a parking lot like that now and pick a few to keep?

  13. 4 generations of racers, "Pops" Charlie Turbush passed away, the original racer of the family! His sons have won many races, his grandsons won many races and his great grandson is winning in karts, along with his grand daughter who races kart every now and again!

Very sorry to hear about "Pops" Charlie Turbish. The entire Turbish family (both guys & gals) have always been involved in and super supportive of racing at Riverhead.

It also sadened me to recently learn of the passing of George Cousins. He was a really nice guy.

Fewer & fewer of us old geezers each year, still have our toes on the green side of the grass.

    REMINDER TO LONG ISLANDERS.

This weekend is the show at the Historic Hallockville Farm in Mattituck (NY).

Vintage / Historic race cars .. racing people from both today & from days gone by .. vintage trucks .. all kinds of vintage industrial engines .. vintage farm equipment .. tractor pull competitions with real working farm tractors (TRULY AMAZING what they can pull) .. good food at the concession stand .. and MORE .... all set in one of the most beautiful parts of Long Island (if not the country) that you can find.

To me racing is not only about the cars & races .. but even more so about the wonderful people involved. Last year I REALLY ENJOYED this show, as I was able to renew aquaintances & friendships with a lot of GRRREAT people (both racers & fans) that I hadn't seen in years.

Last year admission was a mere $5.00 (for an adult). It's a FUN way top spend a day ... even with the family.

The show is both Saturday & Sunday. My old & wobbly legs .. plus the weather ... permitting I hope to spend Sunday afternoon there myself.

I HOPE to see YOU there!!!!
