MMRC---You wrote a book here and still did not introduce YOURSELF...And yes I remember all you state as I was in a REAL speed shop(in Dallas) in the 50-60-70-s....
Name only is not much of an introduction....maybe a little history of yourself and age always helps..
hey welcome from Davenport Iowa-my 33 Chevy came from Dallas/Fort Worth area-20 years ago a buddty bought it as a retired drag car -I would like more history on it if anyone in your area should recognize it-the appearance hasnt changed much still same paint, grille etc
Hey Gang, Just finished up the website for the shop. Never really done, but this is close. Little feedback? http://www.rodsandcycle.com Also if your into bobbers: http://www.rodsandcycle.com/bobbers-for-sale.htm We just got a load of cabs from NM.... We'll get them on soon... You guys will love them! And the story behind getting them. Thanks Fellers! Mike
You claim that your initial post was an introduction. If that is so why do I see "we" so much and see no "I" in it? If it was an intro of you the person I would know something about you the person. If I want to know about your business I will check out the Hanmb O'dex. You did post there didn't you? That is the proper place for businesses. Just can't quite figure out what is so hard to understand about "New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here. Where I come from that is far from "New to the H.A.M.B.? Tell us about your business.
Holy ****.... Ok... Here we go.... How goes it all....... My name is Mike, I own MMRC Michael - Michael Rods and Cycle in Texas. Little back ground story I guess... I started Hot Rodding when I was born really. My dad had shops as I was growing up and we always had something going on. Back in those days, late 70's early 80's, in southern Cali if you had a shop you had a circle track car.... Not so much anymore. Now it's hard to find a place to race out in CA. Anywho... I wrenched on customers cars and learned the trade from the old man. Back then it was for money and "working on cars ****s a@#" I liked "playing" with cars. Skip forward to 16. Got my first car for Christmas from my grandfather.... A 68 Camaro! Yea, no fooling. 16 years old with a 68 Camaro. Nice little 327 A/C coupe. I know you're thinking what a turd, 68 Camaro for Christmas, yea no..... it was a pile!!! I built it all top to bottom. I went through at least 5 motors, gotta keep oil and water in them turns out. I painted it at least 6 times from yellow to red to blue to who remembers.... I learned how to do it all and that's where it really actually started. As most of us do I sold the car and bought another, and another, and another and another. Well you get the point. In a very short amount of time I had gone through at least 100 cars, that I considered "mine" Buying, selling, trading and whatever it took to have the next thing. I'd build them, race them, wreck them and everything in between.. This is all before I'm 21. To pay for things I worked at shops turning wrenches. Changing oil, tune ups, brakes all the "bread ad ****er" work. Unless you're a total nut, which I'm sure you're out there.... Working on cars ****s, remember... I hated it! I decided to open my own shop... at 22... As a kid my dad had shops and did well. His places were called "Mike and Sons Garage" He had 3 strong shops. The main shop was in Mojave CA. on the 58 and 14 interchange.... Some of you may know it.... It used to be a lot different back then... It was a travelers haven and a truckers "must stop" lots and lots of cars. He did well. I'd always been around it, I figured I knew the business well enough, I could do it..... So my new wife and I started our shop.. "Mike and Dads Garage" in Chico CA. I had every intent on making a full time rod and cycle shop out of it... Alas my plans were diverted and we of course wound up doing "general auto repair" and it ****ed!! Just like dad, we went circle track racing. For us that was the "Silver Dollar Speedway" there in Chico. I believe I'm a record holder there.... Stupid record, but one none the less.... We were the first team to run a shorter wheel based 73 Camaro.. It was the first year they allowed the Camaro wheel bases to be used... Other than that it was a disaster But we had a hella of good time!!!! Time went on as it does and the shop did ok but not great and it wasn't what I wanted to do. It had turned NORMAL and it wasn't any fun at all. My wife graduated Chico State and we moved to the Bay Area where I AGAIN turned wrenches for a living.... BLA! I built my hot rods on the side and did all the racing I could manage. In the bay that means Jack in the Box on El Camino Real A few years went by and my wife got a call from work asking us to move to Texas... Which at first we thought "Texas, NO WAY, too hot" but then we started looking at what we, as younger folks, could afford in TX as opposed to CA... "Where do we sign" Guess what I did.... Yep, I turned wrenches when we got here.... AGAIN! One day it was cold, wet everything was coming in full of water and messy I was sick and just did not have a great deal of interest in things at that point.... So walked out... "I'm done, I don't wanna work on GD cars, I hate being a mechanic, this is stupid".... I went a job hunting. I found myself with a little time on my hands so I started to build a drag car. Here in Dallas we have a handful of 1/8 mile tracks that are basically all the same distance away. We could race Thursday to Sunday if we wanted.... So I did... I built a truck, went to my first race and it was down hill from there I was hooked.... I built something different.... I built what I called the worlds fastest K5 Blazer... It's easy to do when no one else has one People would always ask why the heck I built a K5 Blazer? To which I would always point to the 20 Camaros, Mustang and Novas and say "that's why" It all the same ****! A K5 Blazer yanking the wheels and laying down 7.90 is flipping fun.... 4.56 gears, 388 stroker and blower. Can't be wrong, it feels so right!!! Guys in there dumb*** Corvetts thought they were bad until a 4300 pound Blazer spanked them... On night a kid with a TA just kept putting bigger NOS pills in trying to beat us.... He only beat himself... Ka -Boom Fast forward 3 years, tons of cars, a drag blazer no more, job, kids, mortgage and all the rest.... I decided to do it again.... Only this time I'm doing it my way!!! I opened MMRC Michael - Michael Rods and Cycle It's been a kick a@$ ride! In fact our 1 year anniversary is coming up. We do what I like! We do what's fun and things we're interested in! We don't change oil on Hondas!!! We DO build fat Rats and Kick a#@ Bikes, Hot Rods and Fast Cars!!! We got into building Rats when my dad built his first one out of a 27 Dodge Brothers cab that we found in Nevada... Somewhere When I saw what he built I was in aw.... When I heard what he spent I was IN! And again I was hooked on something new .... RAT RODS! We started building Rats in the driveway in 2001. We've since built and sold off a great deal of nice Rats and Traditionals and have had a blast building every single one!! Aside from the Mustangs Camaros and other builds we do, we also love the Cycle world... BOBBERS and Rat bikes.... Love them! We can do all the things a Hot Rodder may need... Engines, Bikes, Wicked Paint, Rats, Rods, Customs and everything in between.... Hell we'll hot rod your lawn mower if you want! When I started MMRC I knew I wanted to do it right so I hired one guy and one guy only... Mr. Shaun James and it's been a great pleasure working with such a talented guy. If you're going to build sweet stuff you have to have the right talent and the right people and I believe we do! Can we help you with something? HAPPY RODDING!!!!! We'd love to help if you need it!!!! Thanks!!!!! Mike http://RodsAndCycle.com
