I have them tacked together right now. Hoping to weld them up and wrap them in the next few days.

I heard that you were building those.

    Very cool...:)

There must be something in the water, here in Tucson... :D

  5. are you building for the sound?

  6. Man, the heat those will make. If i were you i would move a couple of the tubes to clean it up a bit and make it look more planned out. Neat project but some tubes are just clumsy looking and could be cleaned up with a little more time and work.

I like it but the heat and limited room for other accesories looks to be a challenge.

wow, um that's a new one on me. Going in front of the mill saves the firewall but at what cost? Got the accessory drive figured out?

  11. I'm not sure what your trying to do with all that, looks like you are creating big problems for yourself, like others have said, alt and pump hoses and all the brackets plus the heat at the radiator.

You got to much time on your hands, what are you going to do cut holes in the front fenders for outlets and how are you going to be able to run belts and accessories, even a simple waterpump r&r will be a 1/2 day job.It might be unique and sound good but problems with everything else is it worth it.

  15. The under-hood heat is going to be ghastly and think of what it'll do to the hoses and belts. For all the effort, you'd probably be better off with some OTC fenderwell headers. The front cross over thing is reminiscent of the early y-block Fords that everyone always cursed when they burned themselves on them, now you got it many times over.

Most 180 degree headers were equal length....................are these?????????????If not it's going to sound like crap. Again, why infront of the motor??????????????

"...180 degree headers......not too hot for the street..." Now THAT's hilarious, unless you were serious, in which case, it's back to hotrodding 101 for you.

I think you're on to something here - start your own company building these for the rest of us - you can call it the "Afterthought Exhaust Components". This system will be ideal for folks that can never get their alternator/water pump/power steering belts aligned properly. They won't need to now. It's obvious the engine will start, and you can use some gargantuan electric fans to keep it cool (looks like maybe a w/pump belt could be installed before the headers go on. Just use a big marine 8D battery in the trunk and charge it overnight while you sleep. No fenderwells (those will hold in too much heat) and use flex-pipe wherever possible to facilitate engine maintenance - spark plug access, valve adjusting, etc.

They promote better scavenging by connecting the exhaust ports that fire 180 degrees apart. I would have tried to route the tubes under the engine, but it looks like a fun project either way!

180 degree headers means that every other cylinder in the firing order are sent to the same header. So on an SBC as pictured, with a firing order of 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, the exhaust ports for cylinder #1, 4, 6, and 7 would all go to one header, and the remainder to the others. This means that the exhaust pulses in each header are equally spaced, and if the tubes are equal length (obviously not in the example shown above) then you have maximum scavenging. The down side to 180 degree headers is that it requires a couple of exhaust ports on each side of the V8 to be connected to the header on the other side of the engine, hence the rat's nest of tubing. They're not quite as complicated if you're building them for an in-line engine. Normal V8 headers, where all the cylinders in one bank exit through the same header, do not have this equally spaced exhaust pulsing.

But he'll have to make sure and run a 180 degree thermostat, or all will be for naught.

And I didn't even notice that induction system, I was so distracted by the plumbing.......

  27. When I was a kid in the early 70s one of the local toilet bowl racers bought some and he was king shit of the locals and they all gathered around to put them on his '55 Chevy and it took the whole weekend with 6-8 guys and torches to cut metal and make room for them to exit out the door! Sounded mean for sure!

  28. I want a pair of 200* headers !! I heard that makes better gas mileage !!! >>>>.

In the early 70s I helped out my buddy a local circle tracker. There was a 58 Chevy that showed up from time to time with 180* headers. I called it the bumble bee. During practice you could always tell from the pits when he was on the track. It buzzed!! It had a very distinctive exhaust note. I wouldn't call it cool but it was different.

you ran some on a 57?! do you have any pics?

I already built fenderwells! they worked well, but i wanted to give these a shot!

im actually running a electronic fuel injection system for induction.

Hot Rod Packard: I ended up pulling the top 2 crossovers and routing them a bit cleaner.
