Ditto, this IS the only important question. Screw the car, it can be rebuilt or replaced. Life ain't as easy to replace, look how good cloning is working.
the 2 passengers who are close friends from san jose have been released form the hospital today, one bad leg injury for the lady, and both were pretty banged up if anyone who saw this happen could please contact me that would be great
i saw that on the news that morning. my wife was like "there's some like model T or something that wrecked on the freeway" (yes i was surprised she even knew to call it a model T, even though of course she was wrong) and i saw the video of the car being loaded up on the tow truck. made me sick. glad they're (relatively) ok.
I am so glad to hear that the couple is being released from the hospital. My thoughts & prayers continue to be with them both. Just want to say that Roger & I (Hot Rod Lady) are living proof that the cuts & bruises do mend. Thank you Lord!!!
I just got this months issue of Hot Rod magazine and I find it slightly ironic that on page 60 is a picture of this same car from a 1966/7 Oakland Roadster show, they go on to say that it was Keith's first car and he got it in 1956. I don't have a scanner so I took a photo.HRP
Just wondering if that piece of road is not split wishbone friendly. I see in the case of Ed that he was running split bones, but I am not sure about the 32 tudor? Anybody know or has anybody else has such a near miss on that piece of road. Could be time to talk to the county.
I'm not sure that you can blame it on the split bones 'caus it ripped my 7/16' steel spring perch in half(not at my welds). Although, an independant front end probably wouldn't have as much trouble with it. They have tried to fix the bump but it's still there. I don't think the county has anything to do with it because the road is Interstate 5. DPI.
A post later on has stated that the car got into a wobble before the impact, something that would be a sign of the axle snapping, but not the only thing of course. The rest of the damage is impact as we can see. I am only speculating but at the same time interested to put the pieces together as it may help somebody else in the future.
Wishing Keith and his wife a speedy recovery, and glad that the big man upstairs was watching over them. This stretch of road is terrible! I was in a group of cars headed up to Billetproof, and I opted to take up the tail, just so that I could watch the other cars handle the bumps, potholes and grooves so that I could pick my path. Hopefully they fix the road soon, and this time for good.
I'm from just outside Vancouver B.C. Can anyone tell me just what part of the I-5 this bad part of road is at? Like a mile marker or something? In a couple of weeks I'm heading to Yakima for the Vintiques meet and want to be able to slow down for it. I really hope the occupants of the wrecked car make a speedy recovery and have no long lasting injuries.
That axle could be 25-30 years old and replated more than once i.e. hydrogen embrittelment could be an underlying issue. A local guy's axle snapped after one week of driving after he had it replated (30 year old axle as well) and he was going down the road at 25 mph. (no injuries to him or the car) New axles every so often or polished stainless look better all the time.
You will be turnning off a long ways before the bridge. the bump is on the north bound side of the freeway in the slow lane. It is about 20 miles north of Vancouver, WA. DPI.
if it's such a big problem and widely known bump why don't they fix that shit. My god....who knows how many accidents it has caused.
Wow...thanks to all. my wife and I are kind of OK and healing. I am working on the rebuild now. anyone have a tudor sedan body with a good driver side panel? Keith Bush keith@keithbush.org
Glad to hear everyone is OK and healing. Keep the spirits up and love the car, rebuild it,you and the car will be cruisin down the road again.
Glad to hear you are both OK. Sorry if I missed it, but what caused the accident? What caused the axle to snap?
Keith" Glad to hear your all going to be OK,sorry bout the 32 after seeing the history you have with her,I hope you stay on here and keep us up on the rebuild and maybe some of us can learn from your car and history.Welcome to the HAMB..........Meatball
If it's of any constallation, congrats on the pic in HotRod. Glad to hear you and the wife made it out in one piece. Good attitude wanting to put the car back together. Best of luck.
Keith, if you have any great photos to post of 'the life and times' of you and your car over the years I think that would be a cool thread.
Keith glad to here that you and the wife are dooing OK u were on the prair list i have seen that car around ine Bay Area for years i have hade a t truck for years and a Nomad that i sold Big mistake glad to here you are rebuilding Jim
They have tride fixing it but once it goes thru a winter it's right back again. It doesn't bother indipendant suspension or heavy vehicles as bad so, if you have a light car with a straight axle and are going northbound on I-5, when you get near Woodland WA, move over to the middle lane. DPI(Flyin' Ed).
It may be on a fault line too. We have a couple of similar bumps over here on this side of the mountains that get repaired every year but always seem to come back and be just as bad as they were before.
