Wow, I'm way the hell back in NY and just can't believe that this problem has not been solved! Wish I could help, but by the time I got there with my set-up, the show would be over. C'mon guys, someone out there HAS to have the necessary gas...

Bright! is the guy to get a hold of. anyone have contact info?

Instead of discussing what tools a master craftsman & legend should be using lets just concentrate on getting him what he needs to get the job done!

I'll transport if I can. Denise has my Number.

I hope they get the supplies...

MIG is not an improvement. The welds are to hard and brittle to hammer.

any luck with them getting some gas? I would send a can of beans express, but I don't think that's the type of gas they need. :D trying to keep it light, they are doing a good thing, this will a humorous story for Gene, ........Remember the time I ran out of welding gas in the middle of Kansas in a park? there has to be someone there who can get some tanks to them

z man: i didnt mean to affend anyone. i was just saying if they are in need of something sometimes you have to settle with less then what you want. and yes a mig weld is a little more brittle if you let the weld cool down. i do body work for jason at bear metal kustoms and i dont have a problem with warpage or metal cracking on my welds. its all in how you do it. if some one understands how metal moves and reacts when heated up then i understand giving them a torch to weld something. but with welding with a torch you have a bigger heat zone which in returns means more warpage. i would much rather give someone that has no clue what they are doing a mig welder before a torch if they are going to try and weld on a car body. i know that gene is capable of using a mig welder, and that he is a strong believer in heavy, thick coats of mud/body filler/ bondo. my boss took a course with him, and explained everything that he was tought by the "master craftsman". he learned a long time ago when building cars for the movies that thick mud will hold in car accidents. i believe that mud any thicker than 1/16" is too thick, and collision standards are 1/8". if you end up "forming" you panel curves with any type of filler (bondo, fibergl***,lead) other then metal itself you are not a craftsman. a culpture/ kustomizer maybe, but then you need to look at the finished product not the work during the build.

im not trying to talk down on anyone here and i know that a lot of people are going to get mad at this post, i was just trying to throw out alternatives. if you dont believe me about his thoughts behind filler, ask him in person. he will tell you the same. when you are in need of something you need to accept was is available.just like the song says:

"you cant always get what you want,
but if you try sometime, you just might find...
    YOU GET WHAT YOU NEED!"

    thats all i was suggesting.

***and i do hope someone came through for them today. it was for a good cause.

I just saw this. I would have been glad to help if I would have known. No one called or texted me and yes---some of them had my number.

Same here, I was 100ft from where they were chopping and I'm sure my Dad would have ran to the house and brought his tanks in, I never saw the thread until just now.
I got some great shots of Gene and Larry this morning, too cool watching them work!

Well we made some sail panels and tacked those ****ers on with a mig and and that was it! I've done the KKOA chop with Bill Hines and now Gene it's always ****ty cuz we don't bring anything and the **** tools we got handed were minimal to say the least! We were all just greatful to get the car chopped for a disabled vet the guy was a sole survivor in a humm v tha was blown up in Iraq. The guy didn't get a finished chop by anymeans but he got a free chop by Gene Winfield, Alex Gambino his aprentice Mitch, Scott Mugford and myself. If he can finish up the good start we gave him he'll be driving a piece of history!
Nite nite I'm sleepin in the car in western nebraska

What are you talking about... I did call you! At 11pm sat night. Sounded like I woke you up, I asked you if you had the gas the boys needed and you said no and suggested I get ahold of the guys at the shop on santa fe that threw the party on Friday night.
