Ken;Dick had the Comet at the Winternationals this year, what a bitchin Comet. Those SS guys get those 289s to scream,9000+RPMs,stock valve sizes and 450cfm Ford four barrel carbs!!! I tried for many years to get Gary Williams to build me a legal Super Stock 289,he kept telling me NO.He told me all the horror stories of keeping a high strung 289 in peak form and dealing with NHRA and their B.S.!! Dick and Gary pulled out of their pits and drove up to stageing together, what a sight!!!!Mid to low 10s out of 289 cu.in. in a 3200lb Comet!!! ROY.

Wonder why he is selling? Some one said he had a nice 66 fairlane wagon he is selling also.Anytime there is a couple of comets going to the staging lanes is awesome.

Partsdawg;doesn't look too bad.Floors are available but subframes and quarters are not.The floors, doors, glass and assorted other items are the same as a same style Falcon. ROY.

Roy , you will just have to be ready for next year . Maybe you could do the same thing as Ken did and travel back for the second show. I am sure we can find a place at my house to keep a trailer . I hope I can get the Mustang done in time to go. I will probably have to run with you in the Hot Rod class since they will not allow the 65 Mustang in N/SS. Jim.

George;I hope they weren't trying to pass that off as a real Stroppe prepped B/FX.The Comet has some great potential but man it looks ROUGH! The Stroppe Comets were Cyclones, not Calientes. What is going on with your car? ROY.

Jim;even with an FE they won't let you run?How about the real H&M Mustangs? The rules can get strange to me,they let all aluminum big inch 409s run,big inch FEs and Mopars, and Pontiac Tempest clones, but no Mustangs! How did the race go this weekend? At least they seem to stand by their rules, unlike out here where the rules change depending on who shows up! Roy,I hope by then the Mustang will be allowed. I missed the race this weekend because I had a job to do that I could not pass up. " Mustang $$$$$".
I talked to Steve and it sounds like he is the lone member of the 422 team now , everything else is broke. All our team cars run on the edge to make big power ,go fast ,and put on a good show but with that comes breakage . I guess we could turn them all back some and run slower but what fun would that be. Still plugging away on the Rocket. There is the realization that I may not be able to debut it at SEMA 2010, it seems that ten month's is not quite enough time to assemble a high-strung 289 by my engine builder. Yeah.....
Interior is just about all done, just waiting on the engine. The Kennedy Brothers offered up a fresh medium riser dual carb'd 390, but its a boat engine, and methinks it just won't have the snarl that I need. So I continue to wait...........

I've been meaning to get some pictures of my car in front of this old building at Broadway & Ventura in Fresno for a long time. Some guy was walking by and told me it used to be an old Speed Shop but I'm not sure. I'm just glad I was able to get some pictures before the wall is either completely unrecognizable or painted over.

Great shots, especially with the sun playing through the holes you punched out. Black and white picture would roll me back into the era!!!!!

It's deep in downtown Fresno, I never go down there unless I absolutely have to. Where I was standing to take the pictures is an old gas station thats now an auto repair place. It was closed today and I got lucky there was nothing parked in front of that wall. I'll see what I can do about converting the photos to B&W.

I am interested in how you know that Stroppe Comets were Cyclones.Does that include "64" B/FX also?

hey Roy, well she is torn back down for what hopes to be the last time, got most of the sheet metal all bead rolled and in. prepping the frame for paint, then running brake and fuel lines and putting it all back together for what i hope is the last time, i think i mocked this thing up a hundred times... haha.

ordered the CANDY ROOT BEER paint from house of color today, along with the gold monster flake. were gunna hand paint all the logos on instead of using stickers also so that should be trick. kinda getting excited now. hehe!

George- it'll be well worth the effort of hand lettering the logos. When I had the Dart on display at SEMA, you would not believe how many commented on the fact that there was not one vinyl decal on the whole car. The only decals were old water slides on the lexan quarter windows. Truly old school at its best!!! I cannot wait to see the root beer color on the car!!

Analog Dog;I don't know for a fact all of the 65 Comets to come out of Bill Stroppe's shop were Cyclones, the early 64s were Calientes as the Cyclones were not out yet.Every 65 I have ever seen that is a documented A or B/FX from their shop has been a Cyclone. That red 65 just does not fit, steel fenders and doors, steel splash apron, welded shock tower brace, full interior and dash.I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time, that Comet just does not fit the bill!! JMO,ROY.

  27. You think that's bad! I have to listen to it everyday!!!!!!!Plus check the tire pressure!!! lol!!!!!!!!!!!!
