Thanks Paul, What happened to the kids rolling the piano down the street? Figured they would have made an appearance. Slim

Paul, thanks again for letting me steal two parking spaces.

Friday my son and I drove the roadster down to Salina and my wife and daughter followed us in her car. We registered at the hotel, parked the car in the park, ate lunch, and hit the pool. That new water park is awsome!! Very inexpensive for all the attractions they have available.

At 4:30 we grabbed the car and head for the drags. I made 22 passes. Only lost three races and they were all close. That is indeed the most fun you can have with your clothes on.(running a car with a very quiet exhaust system is tough when the car you are racing is running open headers)

After the cackel at the drags my wife and kids had to head home. I went to the Americas best value inn and a room that was 90+ degrees! While waiting for the room to cool down I might have found a few margarita's that were on sale and some how I ended up at the Paramount Bar on Friday night as well. Band was awsome but a little loud(gonna be 40 this week and I guess I will start yelling at the damn kids to turn down the music)

Saturday morning I was driving through the show looking for a place to park and there was Paul with two nice parking spots! Paul knows pretty much everyone so I got to meet alot of hambers. Really enjoyed talking to you and all your friends. Thanks for making us feel welcome!

Thanks for the compliments on the cars(Cory owns the Roadster Pickup, he is a lurker on the HAMB)

On a side note... thanks alot! As if I didn't have enough stuff going on, now I have the "board track fever" Them bikes is cool!!

Scraping and sanding the house today, sure makes me appreciate laying in my lawn chair in the park with that many cool rides all around us. (I am posting this during a rain delay) Mike

  5. With a show like this and a host like you Paul, how could anyone not have a ball! I tryed to get one of the bikes in the back of the 55 when you were not looking but it wouldnt fit. I guess i will have to come down to your place next time you are out of town and bring my truck. Sorry I missed that world famous potato salad at the drags, it must have gone FAST! Bob, thanks for the Cozys for lunch also.

HMMMMMMMMM I guess I had better get on the phone to get the booth lined up, Dad didn't tell me we were going to paint it. I did tell him that if it's missing someday it will be locked in my garage :)

  11. Paul, this was certainly the best KKOA show yet. I met so many HAMBers and got to catch up with a bunch others. Did not even get a chance to see all of the cars. Saw you once and never got to chat really. I'll post some of my photos later. Great weekend for sure.

I didn't get any of Alex working on it because I was in my booth, but today I got some good shots of Gene and Voodoo Larry working together. I'm about 400 pics into the 1000 I took and I'll get the best ones up ASAP.

He was dreaming and talking in his sleep. I heard him say--- "hot rods, sex, bbq, and chocolate." Not sure what that was all about.

Hey, "Vegas Paul" and his fine 3 passenger bulletnose are in my Studebaker club chapter.
We are proud to have him, and his car is excellent!

I sure do enjoy this show. Mostly because I get to spend time with Paul and his posse. It is indeed a treat to be hosted by the likes of Paul and Sandy, Lawrence, Tom, Travis and to hang with the likes of Dick, Bruce, Matt and Larry/Louie.

But what a place to hold a car show...in the middle of Kansas in the middle of summer. It was 100 degrees by Noon. Tough on this old boy, especially after all that driving.

I was concerned that moving the show would take away from the atmosphere, but this park is even better. We had a blast on Friday cruising around on those old bikes of Paul's. We had planned some illegal racing activity that did not materialize.

The drags were fun and I was not injured this year. Foot still hurts, though.

Too bad for me that my drag racing hobby conflicts and I have to leave early on Saturday.
I slept good when I got home!

I am already looking forward to seeing many of you next year in Salina.

  19. Great pics and notes Paul. Looks like a great show. What a bunch of kids.

My brother and I went to the show and drags Friday. Had the pleasure of meeting Gasserlouieat the show. Cool guy and a fine '55 Chevy! We ran my '31 coupe down the dragstrip 3 times. On our 3rd pass, we were waved up to the starting line and arm dropped by Gene Winfield! Wow! What a trip for this hot rod guy! It was a great day.

Man that was one kick ass good time.Wild Kustoms everywhere.I saw #1700 entry #.The park was awesome, the people were very friendly with a laid back attitude. We walked up to just about any bunch of people and were treated like old friends.Everything was perfect ,a little hot and humid but so what we had a blast. My only regret is I didn't take enough pictures,I was too involved checking out all the rolling art work cool rides. THANKS KKOA ya done good !

  28. We bolted out of KS at 7am and rolled into Montana at 11pm. The Friday drags were a blast, garage party after the drags, the show Saturday was fantastic great venue, meet and greet was a kick, visiting with Megan and Denise over dinner at the drive in, etc... its all a blur

Any HAMBers that are less than a 16 hour drive away and don't make this show next year are crybabies and should just hang up their keys

  29. Paul, thanx for the great coverage, you and the city of Salina realy rolled out the red carpet as usual. My daughter Carri, myself and roadrunner pal "Mr. Hot Rod Lincoln", Rob Lee had a blast. The great custom shop event at Calvin's Customs was pure bliss, what a cool offering of Salina hospitality. We also had a ball at the drags where Rob Lee had a Historical happening, being lined up to race with Gene Winfield at the wheel in that awesome green sled and the hot rod Lincoln's 341 C.I.'s pulling out a victory in the race. A cool hot rod moment for sure. The new facility was very nice and friendly for this event, as nostalgic as the smaller park indeed, and so cruz friendly, outstanding. Great to see the cool cats from Austin, Norm, Steve, Reggie of the Kontinentals, the Them thugs, The Beatnik crew, and the Merc gathering was spectacular, proud to see Harry Olsens Omaha purple flamed Merc in the mix. Special thanx to No Surf for the trip out to Abaline for the hip drive inn event, and the use of his tools and gear lube and Jeff Patchin for more gear lube, at his country casa (Home of the Hamb BQ) to inspect the Ranch Wagon for its strange vibrations. Ran home with no trouble as long as I maintained 65-70 mph. We are talking Tursday departure next year to take in more of this event. The meet and great was cool, thanx Denise and Megan for settin this up as usual. Thanx again to all involved. ~Sololobo~
