I went to visit my friend yesterday who has a tow yard. There was this super clean and very original,Ca black plates, 1966 Mercury Parklane. The car ran and drove nice, had the 410 Merc Engine in it,looks like it was all new under the hood still.I asked if they were selling it and he said I think one of the guys here is going to use it for Demolition Derby next season.I said NO! I'll buy it right now!!! He called the guy over and he said, nope I'm using it next season.I begged him not do it, the car was in too great of a condition to destroy. He said he didnt care..I dont want to sell it.I offered to find another 1980's Fullsized shitbox in trade..he didnt want to hear it..he said it was going to be cool to see a vintage car like the Merc run in the Derby..just like the old days he said...Sorry..But what a F'in Moronic idiot!

Some people just don't get it. To quote my sister in law..."it's just a car who cares..."
Just ask her a bout horses though....don't even start about dogs...I'm tellin' 'ya...
And I just don't get demo-derbies, that's what my sister in law thinks "stock-car" racing is anyways...

Tell a derby dick that he can sell the parts off a car he's destroying for more than he will win at the derby and he'll look at you, spit his t'backy on the ground where he's going to lay in a minute, say he doesn't give a shit and fire up the torch! When you ask why he's in the demos, he'll say it's for the trophy! DUMBASS.

  7. In reality, if this car was worth anything it would not have ended up in a hands of someone who is going to put it in a derby. I would bet no one came forth when this car was for sale so there you have it.

My buddy is a derby guy and while the cars he trashes are not HAMB friendly, they are usually decent early 70's Impalas etc, that are KILLER daily drivers. Nope, SMASH em up........

Nope you're incorrect. Was towed away for whatever reason, the employee,Mr Demo-Derby got it through a Lien.Probably paid a couple hundred bucks for it.The car is nice, the upholstery was redone, straight car, nice chrome,Dash was in perfect condition.its WORTH Something.I KNOW That for a fact.

  10. Try appealing to his sensibilities by offering an 80's Cadillac so he can derby in style.

  11. Has punching someone in tthe fuckin neck become a lost art? Hey I'm just askin??:D

  12. Agreed. I see it time and time again. You see these old cars that no one will buy, and when they finally get in the jaws of the crusher, people say how horrible it is that they are getting scrapped.
I have some old 40s-50s cars that I'm bringing to the crusher in a few days. I've tried to sell them as parts cars for actually less than the scrap yard will give me, and no one wants them, but yet I now people that think I'm an asshole for crushing them. Go figure?

  16. This yard likely had a thousand HAMB friendly project cars, it was in the middle of no where, perfect place to shop for projects. We made a long detour to see the yard, rolled up to find it crushed out.

I'd rather see an old piece of iron in a derby before it gets crushed.... at least the crowd would cheer one last time.

theres been a couple threads on here about the derby guys doing this sort of thing, thousand dollars paint jobs nice clean cars they don't care. all they see is that 20 dollar trophy and a chance at some cash. people do what they want you can't change it

  18. offer to buy the dumbfuck a 5 foot trophy and a hour with a toothless "trophy girl" sounds about right for that kinda mindset.JMO!!

My thoughts exactly. Both this car and the "1980's Fullsized shitbox" are crappy derby cars. Try offering him a 64-73 Imperial or 71-76 full size GM. He'd be a fool not to trade. Think about it, you're offering him an 80s car?....c'mon! I'd turn you down too!

I hate that us derby guys are constantly being called nuts. It's easy to criticize the things we don't understand. Many of the cars we get are on their way to the crusher to begin with because of owners that want them gone. Or junkyards are crushing out to make money. We are actually "saving" some of these cars by making sure the parts that we don't need go to the people that do need them. We've sold lots of 440s and 8.75 rear ends to anyone that will listen. Need a slant 6 or poly 318?...how many you want?!!!!

    Case in point:

We try to "save" a 1959 Mercury Park Lane and sell what parts we can, no one wants to buy them. Even the people that list "looking for 1959 Mercury parts" and you email them, they don't want to pay for shipping. You guys are the ones that are nuts. So when we can't salvalge the car anymore, off to the derby it goes. What we call a "Viking Burial."

You can't save them all. Get over it.

Ha.....like an 89. Now thats the shit that makes it worth signing on the HAMB everyday.

I would agree, that guy sounds like an asshole... not that a 66 Merc is a fantastic car but if its in the shape you said it doesnt deserve to go to the derby (yet).

  22. ALL OF THESE "DEMO" DERBYS SHOULD BE DONE WITH IMPORTS...THATS ALL THEY ARE GOOD FOR ...............save AMERICAN tin!!!!!!!!

  28. You going to store it? Yeah thats what I thought! Save your speech unless you're getting out your wallet.

I've dealt with a minimum of 40 dipshits that TELL me to save it but THEY don't have the cash or space for it. Its the same with the wrecking yards that are crushing cars, they can't wait for me to come and get them and I can't wait on buyers on my end.

Here is an easy example for the simpletons

When I first joined here I couldn't get ANYONE on the HAMB or anywhere else to buy a 1939 Mercury tudor sedan (first year for Mercury) for $600. No one makes parts for them, different dimensions than the Fords. All the restorers called and said "I would but it has rust in the rear sills", the hotrodders all said shipping to CA was going to double the price, yeah no kidding.

It was a shame but I ended up parting out what I could to a few HAMBers and sold what was left for $75 scrap weight.

How long was I supposed to wait on a crybaby with cash?

These pics are after I tore it down for parts.

Here's a perfect example: I bought 2 1956 Desoto 4 door sedans. The guy had already taken the hemis and trannies out of them and they were on there way to the crusher. I had both cars for sale on evil bay and craigslist at least 8 times!!! No takers..... I even dropped the price to 250.00 for both cars......No takers. So I enjoy life and like to do what ever the hell want with the cars I spend my hard earned money on so after I sold about 80 percent of the parts off of them I did what was right to me and gave her one last blast of glory before she was melted down and recycled!!!!! Cars are my life, I find them, build them, race them and wreck some of them!!!! Rock and Roll!! JOKER JASON.
