This thing is so cool it has me looking long and hard at my Brothers 62 falcon sitting beside my Scout. He has visions of a pro-street race / street car. I'm thinking gasser style with a blown 472 caddy motor

  7. Love this thread! Keep coming back every week or 2 for more little tidbits like this water neck:

Really cool idea about tapping into the back of the heads for water; I've always wanted to put the radiator in the trunk of an open car to clean up the front - great idea!

We need to set up a benefit so you can travel East and share this with the crowd out here, pictures are not enough anymore. Ah yes the life of being able to use your vehicle year around.

Dude I'm stoked to have seen this car in person today. Thanks for taking the time to let me look it over and it was kool to meet you. It left a lasting impression on me. I'm feeling the need for more HP in my next build.

My brother is no Gold Chainer by any stretch of the imagination. If you knew him you would realize how funny that thought is. He'll keep it real. The Falcon will certainly NOT be a poser with a 547 BBF in it. He simply wanted a pro street style car that could be street driven as well as rip of a 10 second pass on demand. But he wanted to do it with comfort and modern safety. ie: Mustang II front end rather than a straight axle. Besides, he's keeping things old school with his 60's altered style 49 Prefect build this summer

Your car is the kind of car that many of us dreamed about in the early 60's but had no money or ability. I remember in the summer of '62 we shoehorned a 283 Chevy into a Falcon. Junk yard 283, a set of power pack heads, and a 4 barrel manifold. We actually cut the stock cast iron Exhaust manifolds at the Y and brazed them in the up position because they would not clear the shock mounts. A nasty looking piece of that bendable exhaust pipe routed up and over and down to dual mufflers. One pipe out the back and the other cut off short as not to give away the V8. Stock suspension and a three speed with a floor shifter. I remember us sneaking in to the junkyard and stealing a flywheel, clutch and pressure plate that we looked at that day but couldn't afford to buy. I had just graduated high school and finished a 6 week welding course at Lincoln Electric in Cleveland before going to college in the fall. The guy that owned the car wanted me to weld a set of traction bars up under it to make it look "bad".I told him that the Falcon had coil springs and no frame. Just do it for looks,he said. One fell off the first night just pulling into the Eat'n Park. Green car with stock wheels and tires. Ruined a good economy car, never ran right, and boy were my buddies parents pissed when they found out what he had done to that Falcon. Best of luck with your car!

Thanks for the before & after photos. My first car was a white '62 Futura. After that I had a red '62 Futura, and seven Falcons in all. They were good cars, easy to work on & maintain on a tight budget. I recall my buddy Ken blowing my doors off with his red '64 SS Impala 396 on I-5 near Portland, OR in 1965 just before I entered Basic at Ft Ord, CA. He entered the Army a year later. The cars are gone, but we're both still around.

My Comet is Pro-Street and NO poser!!! How does 10.4s sound with a small block Ford and Four speed,NO NITROUS or BLOWERS!! It has sat in traffic for hours and not overheated or puked anything out.Stick your 'Goldchain' up your ass!!! ROY.

To each his own but I wish you could find another Falcon body! You have chosen a "rare" 62 Futura high dollar for a sedan, bucket seat car that from the pictures is all there for a restoration. The chrome alone is very hard to find. I have a 62 2dr sedan I restored with a 6 cyl 4 speed. At least what you have is not the high dollar "Sprint' that you chose. NO charge for the sermon. I wouldn't say you are "not of sound mind," you just mis-judged what you do with your Falcon. Jim

Oh man. I'm so glad you showed me the light. What a HORRIBLE thing I have done!

I hope the 60's economy car gods will have mercy on me!

Don't fret.....this car was a parts car.....it had the interior removed, a non-original engine, and I sold the good outside trim to a guy restoring another Futura.

I am also using a 62 Futura, bucket seat car for my alterwheelbase build. I looked a long time to find a Futura, I didnt want to use a plain jane Falcon. Oh well to late now. Chuckles I guess we are terrible, I feel awful.:(:(:(

  27. Haha...I've gotta check in here once in a while...for posterity.

I felt FAR worse about having a hand in the destruction of that Nailhead crankshaft than I ever did about taking a grinder or a cut-off wheel to that crusty old Falcon body.

I am inspired! Just bought a '63 Falcon Futura, and I plan to ruin it too! It will get a 454 Chevy with Weiand tunnel ram, Super T10, 8.8" Ford rearend, and an Econoline straight axle. Of course I'll chop up the rear wheelwells, and the inner fenderwells up front!
They bore me to death when they're stock.
