I have been trying to find someone in my area to get a quote from to bag my 51 chevy. I have tried the hell out of the search button for this and no luck, so can someone give me a ball park figure on how much this should cost me. If anyone knows someone in the Houston area that can do this shoot me name and number because this is all pretty new to me.

If you want any serious response, you need to be way, way more specific. Right now you could be in a range from $500 to $10,000.

Does the car have the stock front suspension, does it still have the torque tube or an open drive rearend, are you planning a bag over leaf for the rear, or a 4 link, or does it already have a 4 link, do you want a frame notch, will the trans tunnel need to be raised, how big of a tank do you want, what compressors, electric or belt driven, what diameter air lines, what style bags do you want, manual valves or electric, front and rear separated or all 4 corners controlled independently, ect.

I could go on and on. It's like asking "what should I expect to pay to get my car repainted" without any pictures or description of bodywork.

Lay out a plan of what you want done, and with what parts, first. Then a price range will be easier to come up with.

I bagged mine with a full kit I picked up at the local swapmeet for $250. Changed out the rear for a 4 link kit that cost $160 and then fitted some air ride bag over shocks that were new that cost me $300 from one of the Art Car guy's. Try CMX Industries.

$2500-$3,500 depending on suspension and air management. Feel free to PM me if you have any air suspension questions

If you send it out, have it C-notched and 4 linked (Gambino Tail Dragger kit for this) you are looking at $2500 without the bag set up. Then expect about a grand for the air ride at least. The front end can stay stock, but work will have to be done to fit cups and etc...another $500 most likely... so I would concur $3500 as a base price. This includes no new tunnel, redoing your trunk, crossmember, dropped uprights, or other front end work and etc. You wont lay frame at $3500. Laying frame and paying someone to do it...think $5000 or above as a low estimate! My 52 Chevy layed low without laying frame and stock front end. Good Luck!

  10. your looking at around $2,500-$3,000 to bag a car

You will never get the right answer here.

The thing you need to do is start talking to the people who has had the work done in your area to try and find the right place to have the work done at. Then go talk to that shop. I cannot stress the importance of speaking to more than one shop.

Just cause someone says it's going to cost you x# of bucks don't mean crap on a board. You have to see what your getting and by that I'm talking about the quality of fab. work that shop can do.

If it's a legit shop that has been around for a long time all that they can do is ballpark it, cause they are going to do it by the hour. If they haven't been around that long they'll give you a "set" price.

"Set" price's should give you a red flag, cause every car/owner/situation is diffirent, and should be treated as such.

I'm sure that someone will disagree w/me, and thats fine. I'm just speaking with over 15 years of experience of doing custom bag set ups for a living, being a custom shop owner, and being around guys that build cars for a living, custom shops, and shop owners.

Thanks for the responses everyone, I have hit a few shops, talked to a few people and saw some of the work. The price was about the same give or take a few hundred but the quality of the shops were different. I saw some ugly welds, nice welds nice custom work and so on. I think I will be looking at close to 4k with what I have asked for from everyone that I talked to. Thanks again guys and hopefully it will be done sometime this year and I will post pictures of the progress.

i see that you are in Houston Tx, there are TONS of shops out there that do great work. there is Extensive Metalworks, Chaotic Rods and Customs and many more that i can not think of.

but i can tell you this, if you go in saying "i want you to bag my truck" they will most likely do a 2 link rear end setup since it is only 25 dollars in material but will bill you for about 600 bucks + install labor costs

so you should go in with a fairly solid idea of what you want (2,3,4 link? lay frame? just ride on bump stops? setup for Big rims?) that way you dont get worked over.
