Derbies are a freaking blast. I do a couple every year. Last couple with mordoor 73-75 impalas. Nobody is lining up to buy them from the junkyards that I find them in. I could care less about a trophy or a little prize money. I do it for fun. And if anyone has a problem, come out to CO and we can settle.

I agree, a '66 Park Lane moredoor? How about someone swoops in and saves this:

Wouldn't that be worth the effort? I mean, when was the last time you saw a 2dr post sedan version of this car? And the guy needs to get rid of it soon because he's moving and it's in a friends' yard, so it will go for under a K, and then guess what will happen to it...

    Anyone want to step up?

there are alot of derby drivers that are sitting on alot of 57-64 mercs and 62-64 galaxies and im sure they would trade anyone that has 74-76 g.m. wagons or sedans. from redding,ca to all through out the central valley there are alot of derbys, go to a derby and talk to these guys about trading,im sure they will trade. i used to derby and would put an ad in sacramento bee "parts for sale" if someone would of showed up i would of gave them everything i took off the cars for free, but not much response ever,

  8. Money talks and you have to be there first. I've saved a ton of cars from scrap, flipped a few, dumped the money back into more cars, and the shit I get from people just for having them is unbelievable, they want the three best parts off them for pennies on the dollar and leave me with nothing, or they want to pay less than I did for the fucking things... I get so I only buy stuff I really like myself, or can use to swap for something I want, so if it doesn't sell or people bitch I don't really give a shit.

If the guy smashes it, the guy smashes it, offer to buy the trim and stuff off it and do some of his stripping work for him. Maybe someone will take better care of the next one. We scrapped a rotty '65 Maurader a few years ago, saved some bits out of it, should have saved the dash and door panels it turned out, but no one gave a crap the two years we tried to hawk it, so off to the crusher it went. On the bright side, the seats brought almost as much as the car did.

Have you ever tried to sell a 66 Mercury 4 door? Good luck. The only part really worth anythinmg on that car is the 428 Crank ($350) and it will be just fine when he is done derbying it. lol

I was just checking my list of the thousands of cars that need to be saved and.... Nope!!!... can't find a '66 parklane fourdoor on there anywhere... Now it's a differient story about that Buick though.... Someone needs to save those brakedrums...

I was cursed with the conscience that wouldn't let me cut up any project that someone could use. After a falling for a few sob stories, practically giving stuff away to help someone's project, you see the thing cut up and parted anyway. You wouldn't believe the less than scrap offers along with "if you deliver" BS. I'll do a derby once a year for the kicks, who cares about winning. Just killed a Granada at Rhinebeck on july 3rd, nobody would pay a dime for the parts.

Restorers have hated customizers for "ruining perfectly good cars".

That is what my Grandfather used to say to me whenever I got a new project, before he past away. "You are just gonna ruint (yes ruint with a t) that nice car"

    So get over it.

Yeah, at some point I'll get around to it. Until then, I only have pictures like this to serve as inspiration.

I guess it is his car, I wouldn't want someone telling me what to do with my cars. Even though it seams like a shame if the car is that nice.

No worse than some jackass owning a classic that he is going to restore "one day". Ten years later it is all rotted to hell and wouldn't even make a good derby car! How many guys do you know that fit that discription?

  19. Good point! They are actually worse than the Demo derby guys.

I'd rather see somebody demo derby some 4 door that nobody wants then hack up another 2 door tri5 chevy to make a "street gasser".

Oh, and I gotta agree with the others, that Mercury is ugly as sin. I wouldn't demo it, but I wouldn't drive it either. That's like a car for your girl friend haha.

Moronic idiot indeed! Sounds like the gene pool needs to drained a bit in that area.
Years ago a friend had a 1958 Chrysler Imperial that he got for free. The body was in beautiful shape, chrome was mostly good, all glass was good. Turns out the motor was bad, so I offered to overhaul it if he bought the parts. Instead, he sold it to some guys from New Hampshire who came all the way down to Virginia to buy it and take it back to NH to use in a demolition derby. They stuck a running drivetrain in it and went to town. I saw before and after pictures of the car and it was destroyed! It still makes me sick to think a bunch of knuckeheads ruined a beautiful classic car for a demolition derby.:mad:

  25. Hey, I have a '58 Imperial I've purposely advertised as a demo car.. I've been loading it up with scrap to junk it, though, no one wants to patch it up to smash.

How many old cars have been trashed by ignorant people who claim to be into cars? Always cars for sale with the top cut off maybe partly weled back on maybe not, nothing else done to car maybe just the body, but by GOD they wanted a hot rod just like on the hamb. My point the world is full of dipshits.

sounds like you don't have a clue what you're talking about, or the ability to construct an english sentence for that matter.

He knows what he's doing, the derby guy. That car is worth, maybe, a couple of hundred with a title. No title, it's derby fodder.

After the derby if the motor is any good, it's still worth a couple of hundred parted out...............

Maybe he (derby Merc guy) didn't like you, and he knew just how to screw with you. And it worked!
