So does it have to be a pre 32 henry ford with all bolt on speedway parts to be trad? Duece rails? Hemi? Lasalle trans? Doin the same shit everyone else does? Customizers got names for themselves by taking risks. Not doin what everyone else was.

I will second what Rocky said- the 4 doors on the '52-54 Fords just seem to "work". I haven't seen many other models from those years that can pull it off (again, I'm biased). When I see a '52-'54 in a 2dr post it almost looks out of proportion now.

Can't wait to see build pics!

about 3 in the glass. But doin it that way widened the pillar on the door. Looks better IMO. But then again, I am biased!

Wow Doc, it's a good thing you came along when you did. You helped out a ton. Ataboy!

On a side note, Choptvan, I think I've been to your place in the Springs. My buddy Drew took me there about three years back. I remember a chopped passenger van with like a hundred baby seats in it. Would that be you?

  11. Glad I could help, I like the 53 I just cant stand the modern style he wants to build his street rod-rat rod hybred. Thats why I come here so I dont have to put up with them.

Your first pic is of a business coupe. Ford made those, but they also made a 2 door sedan, which shares the roof length with the 4 door sedans. The converted car below is now basically identical to a 2 door sedan. My '53 was originally a 2 door sedan. The doors are the same as the coupe, but the rear quarter windows are longer.

Not that it matters, I guess, just wanted to point that out. A 2 door sedan donor car would probably make the 4 door conversion easier since the rear quarter window length would match up to the 4 door roof, you wouldn't have to cut up the old back door.

Give him some time before you get all Soup Nazi on him. I have seen more than a few atypical roadsters done on here lately, and haven't seen you there to bust their balls over it. It could turn out pretty cool.

Oh, there's "shit hole" countries out there for sure, but Australia isn't one of them. Pretty embarrassing way to refer to one of our closest allies.

    And it's "you're" not "your."

I actually used a donor 2 door car. I had to change more than one thing that isn't so odvious to make it work. I wanted it all in proportion. I even moved the rear hump to keep it looking long in the rear.

Streetrod? Rat rod? What is your definition of those? I hardly think it will fit into either one of those catagories when done. But what do I know. Probably not much compared to a great guy like yourself. Always showing inspiration to others. Helping people along. Giving REAL insight. I think I like you. I want to be just like you.

  20. Just like most people, you want to be just like me.

"btw lets see what your building? cuz all i have seen are some half ass model cars in your profile? have you done any fab work? or are you that guy that just buys shit and bolts it on?"

Fab work? Yes that I have done. What am I building right now?
No car right now, not even a bike. What I am building is my own future. I gave away my past an much of the present in a truly shitbox country saving the arses of US soldiers.
Running into you just makes me regert that a little.

When I do start another car, I will most certainly let you know. I bolt 'shit' on my cars yes as most do, stops the parts from falling off, I can only assume you just zip tie parts on?
Traditional does not mean carbon copy of another car, though your vast and mountanous knowledge of such is obviously your lifes mental tumult!
Just build the 53, let yourself mature a little before embarking on the Hot Rod project.

  24. PS, The only electronic pic I have of one of my builds, Yes I did the fab work and believe me there is a hell of a lot more in it than most US cars due to our road rules.

I really like your 53 choptvan.... from the pics it looks like you started with a pretty solid car. Every one that I find here in the midwest has a "salt channel" job (lower 6" rusted away and missing completely). I really like how it turned out....are you taking it "all the way" or is it finished?

Hooligan: just build it. You have a good starting point, and plenty of guys willing to help. Your club sounds cool, and you'll get good ideas on the HAMB and other sites.

Wow, quite a lot of drama here......i dont like what is referred as Rat rods, but i dont see anything resembling one in this thread. The little pick up rodster he posted onb page 1 is pretty kool imo, w/ the "slanted" I6 and uber low stance. Paint would improve alright but all cars must go trough the primer phase, its only natural.
As for the 4door that Rocky mentioned i think i have a few pics of that one, if i find'em i'll make sure i'll post'em here, but they might be on a HD that is actually off the pc right now, so it might be a while.
Funny thing is that you and your wife talk through the forum instead of face to face :D
    Keep us posted!
Choptvan, i think your van was kool, just not Hamb friendly, but that aint the obnly criteria it has to meet is it?

it is actually a 54. And it was mostly solid but a badly wrecked 4 door. Had to replace the right rear quarter and the whole front clip. here is the thread if you are interested....

And I am tryingto finish it. Just need more money to get the kast it to do it. Oh yeah, and time. I have to many customer cars to have the time to even touch it right now.

dude, that van was a pile. It disgusts me that I even built it most times. IT was fun. It was cool, at times. But still a POS.
