Original 8.20 Cheaters form the 60's mounted on 15x8.5" Ansen 5 Spokes (I know not Americans but close)

I restored the wheels after buying them from KiwiKev. They had 1.5" wide chips missing out of them and pretty beat.

I always thought the Torque Thrust " D"s were the later( from what, '67 on?) curved spoke type that you see reproduced these days. What I'm seeing posted above are original Torque Thrust type wheels. Am I wrong on this?

need louvers? yes what every one has posted are the tor thrust streight spokes. what i was talking about was the curved or round spoke wheels kine cornpanzer posted [IMG]. i think the d spoke was alittle later. most were for corvette , porsche road racing .

The D in Torque Thrust D stands for disc. They were made with the curved spoke to clear the disc brake caliper on new Corvettes (sometime between 63/65).

That's what I thought. As I was told, they came up with the curved spoke "D" to clear the bigger disc brakes on one of Duntov's production Corvette race cars in the late sixties. I have a set of the early straight spoke style, but I didn't post them because I thought maybe I was wrong. Thank you for the clarification.

both of mine have the cut-out spokes to clear disc brakes. the corvette/porsche wheels are awesome though, and clearly different from the later 'd' spokes...

(we've seen the corvette/porsche wheels in this thread, what else are you gonna see 'em on? they're pretty much 15x6 and pretty much found on corvettes and porsches...)

  21. To my knowledge, you are correct, the "D" was for disk brakes, the spokes were curved to clear the calipers.

This is the original Torq Thrust "D" wheel. I believe they only came in 15x6 and 15x7 in Chevy bolt pattern.

This is what the were made for.

Believe it or not, neither one of these cars is mine :D

Two thoughts - Mazooma, love that panel! is that the one that ended up with weird mural and the Cragar 10 holes after your ownership? The other is about ten years ago, a friend bought a set of magnesium "D"s at Pamona that were 15x81/2 and 15x7s, and we carried those ****ers what felt like two miles to get them back to the car! I've had lots of Halibrand wheels over the years, but man those "D"s seemed heavy for magnesium. I just always chalked it up to being roadrace stuff, but has any body else noticed that?

These are Magnesium! This Vette was customized by Bruno in 1969 & no cracks! I bought the wheels first & then looked for a flared fender corvette it took a while but worth the time! Tks Bill
