Does anyone remember a club call the Diablos, from Reading, Ohio. In the early 1950's, I found one of their plaques in the street in front of my house in Wyoming, Ohio. I remember it was pale blue, but thats all I remember. I had it on the front of a miniature car my dad made for me when I was 8. There is a picture if it in an old album - I'll look for it tomorrow.
I finally got around to making the change as you requested. I removed the R#% R*@ term and replaced it with Traditional Hot Rod Clubs on this page ..... History of Car Club Plaques Hope this meets with everyone's approval. Especially the Rat ..... Oops, there I go again.
Here is my my old car club plaque. We had it going for a while but some of the guys got brun out or joined other clubs. But me and a buddy my still roll with them on are customs because I think the plaque looks sick. This is the plaque that was in one of the mag's I think it was car kulture deluxe.
OK. I'm trying to clean up my list of 12,000 patterns from Chicago Metal Craft and Speed Gems and I can't figure out what this So Cal Ramblers plaque says on the top. Anyone got an answer?
Dennis (@59BuickWagon) - I'm not positive ... but I think it spells the Japanese word "A K A N A M E": The akaname ( 垢 あか 嘗 なめ ) is a Japanese yōkai depicted in Toriyama Sekien's 1776 book Gazu Hyakki Yagyō. Meaning "filth licker", they are stated to lick the filth that collects in bathtubs and bathrooms. Today the akaname is often described as a being which appears in untidy bathrooms to lick up the grime and dirt with poisonous saliva. The story is sometimes used to scare children into keeping the bathroom clean .
Dennis, Why don't you cast a new plaque then paint and polish it so the letters will show up better. I'm not sure what that last letter is because all the A's look a little different. A Google search came up with a bunch of people named Akanama so maybe this is another personalized plaque. I also tried an on-line Japanese to English translator but all the combinations I tried came up with no matchs.
"akanama" Paul edit: sorry, should have read the following posts... Mr Norwell was right on the 1st try. Would be nice to know what it means tho
any info on this plaque? our club shares the name & although their stomping grounds is only about 45 mins south of ours we are separated by about 50 years. all i know is a fellow club member's grandfather was in the night prowlers around the same time as this clubs existence, malden MA early to mid fifties.
This plaque has a space between the KING and PINS. Your signature has Kingpins CC. A book I have (Hot Rod and Custom Car Clubs) has two King Pins listed from MA, one in Barnstable and the other in Worcester.
Rat Finks Limited to go with the trunk artwork Sorry for the small photo...need to learn how to enlarge !
