    Jeffery,

I think I can speak for everyone by saying we had a great time wrecking your garage Saturday. Good Times we'll all remember forever. The 35 is looking awesome, but I agree that the rear will need to come down a little more.

I'm still keeping your little 54 chevy owner in my thoughts and prayers, as well as you and your wife.

BTW, I'm still picking those little pink flowers from your bushes outta my car!!!

I am truely sorry to hear about your hard times. I am glad that it sounds like your little guy is getting better. But that kickass coupe can sure take your mind off your troubles for a little while. It really sounds like your friends and family knew what you needed. Your coupe looks bitchin.

Love those Crepe Myrtles Shawn! I really love that so many of you guys had a good time working on my car. That just makes it even better and I really can't wait til I'm called upon upon to thrash on a car for someone else. Looked like a shit load of fun! And yeah I'm trying to figure out how i can get that rear a little lower once the engines in. I'm thinking that the posies spring might need to be re-arched.

Thanks again everybody for the well wishes and prayers for my son. He'll be feeling the blessings that everyone had given while in surgery tomorrow at noon.

Hope your son gets better. The '35 is looking awesome. Cruising in your coupe with your son and your friends, it cant get better than that.

  7. Yep, those guys are pretty awesome! I'd really like to find one or two guys out here that were half that cool.

As for Memphis, My prayers are with him, as well as you and Davina. Get that little guy better. Then there will be better days for the three of you....and the '35.

    Prayers for your little one.

  11. I was there too! (in spirit!)

Looks good man, good group of guys!!

  12. Hey JJ ,
Great that the lil guy is on the road to recovery. We're all still thinkin of you and the family.
Your car club buddies are clearly a decent bunch too - do they take overseas members? .

Onwards with the progress from here man . Son and car - in that order.

    Rod .

  13. A great family...

    Awesome friends...

Get that little guy healed up and you, my friend, are truly livin' the dream.

There are folks out there with a whole lot more - who don't have half as much.

Only an hour and a half before Memphis goes off to surgery. Thanks again for the well wishes and prayers.

And too keep it on topic, I will tell you that hopefully when I get back home, I'll be able to devote a couple days a week to getting this thing done by the end of October for Good Guys Southeastern nationals. I'm going to get all of the brakes squared away first and run the lines etc as well as mounting a dual reservoir master cylinder. After that's all in I get the engine in.

That you were Chris. You're coupe is my inspiration for this car. I wanted a coupe that had a lot of character on the outside but is mechanically sound and finished otherwise. Your coupe is just that and more.

Of course if you were really here I would have got a GM 10 bolt, IFS and a tunnel ram on top of that 265.;):D:D

    Jeffrey,
We really did have a great time working on your car Saturday and seeing in morph into something special for you. This is one of those deals that we as family and friends will remember FOREVER. Man I aint even gonna lie, just seeing how happy you were when the blankets were pulled from your 35 made me tear up a little. I know you and Davina have been through so much (and are going through a lot right now as I type this with Memphis in surgery). It makes all of us happy to see you happy in a time like this. I would not have traded anything in the world to miss this past Saturday. Its a day we will never forget! We all love ya man! Now go get lil' Memphis better!

The engine is a 1956 265 Chevy motor punched out .125" to a final cubic inch of 283, '57 Heads with a simple gasket match port job, 097 Duntov Corvette solid lifter cam with 230'@.050, 287', .393 in X .399 ex lift, 112' separation, lash is .012 & .018 specs, all internals are new and the engine was built by Scott Bagshaw at Bagshaw fabrications in Concord, NC.

Trans is a '39 Ford with a basic clean up and run....I have two more incase I break one wink wink.

The rear is a '39 with a brand new 3.54 center chunk a spec'd and ready go done by Tom Welsh after a mess of mismatched gears and wrong parts on my end.

I think it'll be a pretty rad set up. Nothing you want to beat on but definitely something to be proud of because it's exactly what I dreamt of.

  24. JJ,

Hope all is going well and good news is coming soon...

I'm loving the car so far.

The choice of drivetrain sounds great also.

I've been debating what to run in my new '34. Want something very traditional - nailhead, Caddy, something cool. I've really been leaning towards a fully dressed y-block with 3 2's. Then my buddy says he's got a '55 265 under his bench. It got me thinking. Easy swap - still traditional - cheap parts. But, everyone gives you shit for putting a small block in it. I want a cool, trational ride that I can drive anywhere and I don't want to hack up the car too much to do it. Maybe thats why I'm drawn to your build so much?!? I'll be following the thread to see you work your magic.

I've been way overthinking the project and can't get off-center. I need to just make up my mind and start chasing parts.

    Any thoughts? Words of wisdom?

Oh, and where can I find friends like yours? Top-notch dudes.

Best of luck with your son. That has to be so hard to deal with.

I think your stance is perfect. Very cool what they did for you! Your coupe is really starting to take shape. Rad.

In another year and half, you'll get to take pics like this, and all will be right in the world.

Well first of all I would like to say that I just spoke to the surgeon and Memphis did great! We'll be able to see him soon.

As far as you '34 goes Daddy-O I would say that I'm not running a small block, I'm running a Early Chevy V8. There was not Big Block in the 50's so there could not be small block to compare it to right? There's a bunch of differences with 265's compared to 350's and even though 9 times out of 10 people can't tell there is a difference.

For me it was an easy decision since I really wanted something that was correct in terms of year but also something that I could cut my teeth on and really not get crazy involved in in terms of fab work. The '35-40 chassis all came with pretty direct swaps for the early chevy motors especially since the very early ones only utilized a front engine mount compared to the sides. So that front mount actually mounts directly into where the flathead mounts with zero cutting and hooking it up to an early ford tranny was as simple as an adapter. But this is not the only reason that I chose one. I originally wanted an Olds motor in there but the more I measure and the more I added up it just was going to be more work then I was ready for. It also provided zero room to work in that engine bay incase something did break on the side of the road. And once I decided early Chevy V8 I started pouring over old magazines from the period that I intended the car to come from and realized that it really was the Hot Shit back in the day. Some of the raddest cars were powered by 265's and 283's and the Proof Is In The Pudding seen here...

Now, a Cadillac would be awesome too as well as a Nailhead but really if I were you I would ask what time do you want to set your car in? Does a Early Chevy work for that time or would a flathead be more appropriate? If you look closely to the engine pics, my new '33 3w is in the background. With that car I plan on it being a late 40's early 50's car so a Flathead or Caddy is a must...to me at least because I find the restoration of Hot Rods the fun part. But if this is the acr you are going to take on long trips that might not be an option. If I were you I would keep that '54 Ford a long distance car and build that '34 exactly how you want it with what ever engine you desire. Because when else will you have a chance to run a dream engine!!!

Me? Variety is the spice of life so I would like a 265 in my '35, a flathead in my '33 and a 331 Hemi in my '32....but that's just me.
