What would you do? I just got a bottom of the lake condition, extra rusty 68 mustang fastback for cheap. The only good points are the roof and ***le. I could have a fun driver if I bought a coupe and converted it to a fastback and actually drive it while I'm still in my 30's. Or I could go long term and do a full on swc, revell kit, montgomery g***er but it wouldn't be finished for 20 years on my budget. I have a studebaker g***er(sort of) project going too. I'm leaning toward the conversion.

Hmmmm... they make most of the panels for that now I believe so if it's something worth saving you could weld all new panels on.
What else could you put the roof on? Maybe an early Nova? What else?
Of course it doesn't sound like you are realy interested in it so maybe sell it off and put the funds into the g***er project

It has started to droop at the firewall, there is no floor, rockers are gone, wheelwells and rear quarters have fist sized holes. The whole car except for the roof has a thick layer of bondo. Great candidate for a willys frame and a 392 or a sohc motor(I wish). Definitely doesn't make sense to restore, it's just a 2 barrel 302 car.

Dad joked about that too. 16k is pretty steep and I'm not really much of a muscle car guy. I could cut the inner structure and roof out and put it on a nice driver coupe for less than 10k. A 4 speed fastback who gives a **** daily driver would be fun. Problem is, this is a good opportunity to hack something up too.:D

I'm not a photoshop guy, but I always thought I would like to see that top on a Chevy II

  9. I'd say flip it...

I'll wager that we'd all be surprised to see what someone would pay for it, if only to get the paperwork on it. Not saying I condone that activity, just saying it would be surprising--anything I get a hold of on the cheap that I'm not in to get's flipped to fund the things that I am.

Looks like a money pit if it's all junk except the roof, but if you're abilities are such to swap it onto a coupe that would be my choice, too.

You're probably right about flippin it but the "eleanor" big buck days are over for now. It was only $400 though, so....? I could definitely pull off a roof swap. I dunno....tough one.

****! That's a good shot. It'd cost me at least 35k in parts to do that right with the blown cammer etc. I'm dyin' here.

I forget who did the original but if I remember right this ended up as a fibergl*** kit. Not mustang but similar to early charger. The original car was a 409 or z-11 427 if I remember correctly.

I saw where a guy is taking a fastback roof off a Baracuda and putting it on a Dart..and he is doing a really nice job...maybe this roof needs to go on a Falcon...:)

But the 'easier' job would be to find a nice mustang coupe and graft it onto another mustang.

Or, check out the Weidoes and Avantis thread for a neat rendering of a fastback'd Avanti.

It's the perfect parts car for someone who can afford to start with a Dynacorn repop body. It would give up all the little stuff they don't repop...plus a ***le if you have it. I bet it would bring $1,500-$2,000 on the 'Bay with a ***le. BECAUSE IT'S A FASTBACK!

  17. Im for p***ing it on and putting the $$ into your current project, just makes sence to me?? There is someone out there with a rusty roof fast back looking for a good roof!!
    Doc.

  18. i agree with Doc. seems like your cash would be better spent on your g***er.

I vote sell it. Lots of work to bring that one back! Spend the effort on the g***er.

I think I'll sit on it until the studebaker is either done or I need cash for it. Maybe my financial situation will take a good turn by then anyhow.

If I had that, I'd be looking for a running, solid Mustang coupe to put the roof on. There's pretty good do***entation floating around the web to show how the conversion is done, it doesn't look that difficult. Then swap the tags/***le over and you're set.

Either that, or sell it to someone who wants to do just that. There are buyers for stuff like this. Making a drag car doesn't do anything for me.
