Ok yes I had a set of 59 caddy tail lights to put in but after I saw 99% of the 58's out there with them, well I just couldnt do it. I have always liked something different even if others don't like it I do it if I like it. I didnt want the stock ones either so I was on the internet just searching around one day when I saw these repop 54 pontiac style lights....... Hummmm well I love glass lenses and these had them so why not. I bought 6 and went for it.

I basically took apart the light assy and made a pattern that I could transfer to the body. Once I had the two holes drilled that the lights mounting studs went thru I then lined up the center and enlarged the socket hole since these were bigger. I used a 2.5 knockout and slightly enlarged from there with a small air belt sander. I also had to shave some of the bezel one each one to fit the body contour. The new lights are slightly larger then 4" diameter while the stock ones are slightly smaller then 4.

I personally like these because they are more shallow rather then sticking way out the back and my hope is that it ends up emphasizing the fins that people seem to neglect on a 58. Hopefully some of you appreciate the direction im going, if not oh well I like it :)

Thanks for the positive comments guys.

57Ford, that means alot. Yes I am not one to butcher a car and all the mods I do can be put back to stock if someone wanted too, of course I dont ever plan on getting rid of my dream car.

Definitely pulls the lenses closer to the body...makes it look more "kustom"...I like it.

You just started a new trend....good eye holmes!!

I know exactly where you are coming from esp with the caddies. I told you how i wanted to do mine but dont have the heart to alter the tailights cause its the one thing i really love about them but we'll see. I was talking with my one buddy about slightly trimming the stock units down and swapping the lens out. I tried it on an extra one i had but didnt really like the look yet so its back to the drawing board. Like this i wanted to keep the look of the stock lights but yet have people look like what was changed?...You brotha achieved that...This is such a slick look man i really got to give ya the props. Its of da hook!!

Very subtle. Good call, looks almost factory, but is different enough to make people notice that something's different, but what?

Right on, when you mentioned folks will now notice the fins! This is the tastiest trick I've seen on a '58 Impala yet.
