Anyone planning on going to this show?

I haven't been yet, but have heard good things. I know Bad Bob is helping out with this one (BTW,it was nice meeting you at the HAMB meet and greet at LARS). I don't think a lot of people are aware of it, but I think it could be a great show!! It certainly has a great venue. The Pike in Long Beach has a great atmosphere. There will be indoor parking as well as outdoor parking, a cruise, $20,000 grand prize for a true traditional custom not a cookie cutter 32' roadster with 32'' wheels!

I think we may have our Zephyr ready enough to drive to this one too! So I for one can't wait! Let's get the word out. Anyways, I know I'm rambling, but I'm real excited about this one...

I'll be in the "pinstripers coral" aka: pinstripers table. Doing some panels for charity. I think with the recent Larry Watson event I'll probably do a tribute panel in his honor.

  5. The website says now $20K cash purse... and on the flier it says $32?? Not that it matters to me because I do not have a car that would win the prize!

Megan and I both plan on flying into town for this. Not sure why original poster thinks many haven't heard about it, I think the opposite is true as trace the promotor has been promoting this event for more then a year all over this country. He has been at every major event I have attended including the detroit autorama, lonestar roundup,, kkoa in salina, santa maria, icons of speed and style just to name a few. Trace is a promotional machine. Others should take notes from this dude. Lots are talking about this new event which is sure to go down in history as the finest first year kustom event.

Will there be historic cars? The the commercial ad mentioned two. Will original Renegades members be present? I loved the old photos with the wood fence partitions, it would be cool to bring that back. The original building was beautiful, what happened?

The reason I had mentioned that is because everyone I have been in touch with regarding the show has been completely unaware of it and most have been locals. Just trying to spread the word a bit more...

It actually isn't the first year of the show either. I believe last year was the first year, possibly the second, but I was not aware of the show last year and I live in Long Beach during the work week! Maybe I need to get out more...

  16. Which Barris kustom 40 merc is that on the commercial ???????? Rikster any idea? It's getting billed as a historical car ? Which Barris car is it?

It looks to be the purple 40 with the Caddy dagmars on it. Would look better with a Lincoln or 46-48 Ford bumpers.

  18. Actually, this is the first one! The Showcase of Customs,at the Ink-n-Iron last year was just a test to check the water and see how successful it would be to do a show like this. I'm sure this what Trace had in mind, doing a REAL Custom Car Show. It will be a great show and wouldn't miss it...even if I wasn't working it! It reminds me of the old shows that were at the Great Western Exibit Hall.

Shows how much I know! lol...

I really think this is going to be a great show, probably the best of the year in my opinion, if the turn out is good... It's been a long time coming for a show like this in the Long Beach area. There is just a ton of potential for everyone to have a great time! Even for members of the family who aren't into cars as much as we are...

This is text from a recent email I got from Trace about the upcoming show. I have to admit I was under the impression this was a "custom" show. But after a one hour phone conversation with Trace I see it from a new perspective. It is an all inclusive car show. We need to come out for this event and show support for a local indoor car show or we will not see another like this with this type of commitment for a very long time
Trace has put the work into it now we need to support him and make this a show for the history books.

If you have questions he is more than happy to talk to anyone about this show and his vision for what he sees this being in the future. his contact info is at the bottom of this post.

    Hello,

Currently confirmed, we have cars being debuted from builders from as far away as Australia and New Zealand in our “Avenue of Dreams”. These cars are competing for the largest cash prize and only perpetual trophy for Kustoms in the World. The base of this 11’ tall Italian Platinum trophy holds 72 years of framed winners cars and names. The winner will take home the “Lady in Glass” sculpture and the winning car will be featured on the turntable the following year. That’s right, we have replicated the exact turntable from the 1959 Chicago Autorama, think 50’s flying saucer and made of Cherry wood.

The Wall of Legends display is coming together rapidly, this is a presentation and memorial to all of the first generation Kustoms builders. Our Wall of Legends inductees this year are Frank De Rosa Sr., Dean Jefferies, Joe Bailon, Junior Conway, Dick Jackson, Larry Watson, Gene Winfield, George Barris, Sam Barris, and Sam Foose alongside Bill Hines-last year’s inductee. We are casting the builders hand in repose for what they are known for, (See photo attached of the Dean Jefferies Award for “Creative Excellence”) The Wall of Legends display we be part of a larger historical display that includes the Renegades Long Beach C/C history dating back to 1941; when the club was formed by 5 high school friends. Our Innovator of the Year honoree is Marcos Garcia owner of Lucky 7 Customs.

Across from the museum wall sits Larry Watsons’ N. Downy store front, with the “Vino Paisano” parked in front of it. Dean Jefferies Mantaray and the X51 will both be on hand in the lobby as well, along with examples of the Master of the Kustom inductees builds. I have re-created the same display Dean used to win the 1964 National Roadster Show with the Mantaray, this is the first car show it will be seen at on the West Coast in 25 years.

In the Arena there will be Kustoms on display, most with 360o viewing. We have added outside paddocks for Kustoms and Traditional Hot Rods called Horsepower Corrals. The Pin Stripers Auction happening 6 times throughout the weekend on the lake side stage, is to benefit the Rich Pichette Alzheimers Project. Without Rich, Kustoms would not have the same awareness, he single handedly brought them back to the Oakland Roadster show in 1986 with his West Coast Kustoms club.

All the class awards are made of walnut, mahogany or purple heart and come with a casted metal topper. We have added a Metal Master Award, which is a casted bust of “The Leadslinger” himself-Bill Hines. It comes with the El Producto cigar and the Kaiser Permanente glasses he wears today. It hangs on the wall.

Outside we have 25+ acres of grass to stretch our legs and take in the coastal weather of September. We will have live music on the lake stage throughout the weekend for your enjoyment. Cars will be displayed along the lake shore and hot rods on the islands.

We hope to see you, our fellow enthusiasts, at the show.

    Respectfully,

    Trace Edwards

  28. since i wasn't around in 1958, was there a 25 acre show outside the arena back then?
not asking to be an ass, but from what i've seen in photos and from talking to guys, shows were a much smaller affair. AND you could reasonably put on a show with a limited number of entries. that aside, after spending a few hours on the phone with Trace myself, there is NO doubt in my mind that his heart and passion is in recreating the same level of excellence and dedication to tradition that has sustained us for all these years. in fact, I believe that This may be the catalyst for a NEW generation of Car Show Experience in the years to come.

seems to me that the MAIN show is EXACTLY what would have been reflected in the EARLY '60s, but that Trace, being a business man, realized that you cant cut the mustard with an arena floor show....

the game has changed. shows are different. I think this show is going to be KILLER and that it will be a DESTINATION sow for so cal in the years to come.

lets not poo-poo what i think is going to be one of the BEST things to hit the LA area.
