I've said before that he should at least buy stocks in welding wire companies to get some of his money back.

Did you notice how the price of steel scrap goes up every time Steve starts a new project?
I'm thinking its the increased demand for welding wire in Atlantic Canada that does it...:D:D:D

Hey Koolkemp,i'm sure you will agree that this part of the chopping process is what takes alot of your time.Looks good,i can appeciate the amount of work you are putting into it.getting the gaps and doors perfect(?) is demanding.Keep hitting it...i'm there with you.

You made some really great progress Steve... It looks fantastic....
Very inspiring to see any new updates you make on the project.

Now only you have to find some pre 1950 dash to make the package period perfect... well at least for the eye. I know about the chassis, which I don't think is a problem, at all... I it will work very well for you....

Thanks Rik ! I know about the dash ...its too new lol ! It looked great when It was a 4 door beater but for the era of Custom I am going for....not so good ! I might be able to sell it in the classifieds I suppose? I could rob the dash out of my 50 Meteor (49-50 Ford) ....of coarse I would have to re-mount the steering column as well then.....but the dash has been eating away at me . I also have a pretty much complete stock dash as well but I dont like the looks of them.

I am looking forward to that, gotta mount the 49 Plymouth bumper and rear fenders first! did you put the bumper on at stock height? I am gonna see how it looks abit lower than stock.

I did install the bumper at stock height ,the rear body being so big and round already...dropping that bumper location would have made it look that much more. Will post pix as soon as i get this section done.

Thanks...the car in your Avatar is a big inspiration for it !

  16. Wish I had seen your's before I started mine, there's a couple of things I could have done simpler. I'm at the same stage as you now.
Cheers for the pics. I'm interested to see how you tackle other areas, are you going to weld in the rear fenders?

When it was still gonna be a 4 door beater I wanted to be able to unbolt the fenders....so after a lot of metal replacement they could be bolted on, now I am gonna weld em on and mold them to the body , coulda saved myself lottsa work if I had found the coupe roof sooner

Well it looks perfect, regardless of what I was saying. Shoot...you're too fast for me anyway...

Me: "Maybe ya oughta do this".
koolkemp: "Thanks, but it's well on its way."
Me: "Well maybe ya oughta do that."
koolkemp: "Thanks, but it's already done."
    Me: "Well how 'bout..."
    koolkemp: "Did that."
    Me: "What color ya gonna..."
    koolkemp: "Finished that yesterday."

    LOL.

She's really taking shape now, koolkemp. So cool.

You're welcome. Hey man... an empty trailer shouldn't happen. :)
It won't be empty on the return.
"crappy little fleamarket". Hmmm you have fleamarkets where you can get car stuff? Can't be THAT crappy. And 20 bucks for the hubcaps? Cool.
It's been many years (decades) since we had car-related markets/swaps.

Ya, Fred thought you'd like those lights.

Havent been doing too much visual, mostly just welding and more welding lol anyways heres a few pics of the last couple of weekends

Decided to test fit a 35-40 skirt on it...looked better than I thought it might, the teardrop slope of the skirt actually flows well with the shape of the roof and trunklid....

Also got all the interior welding done on the pass side

    before

    after

And then I started the fun task of trying to make some kind of trunk opening and rain gutter , decided to use a chunk from the sedan opening , I had to cut it and bend it some cause it had a much sharper curve than the coupe on did...I then tacked it to the trunklid so it would keep its shape then glued all that to the body

So a few more pics of the tedious trunk area work .... heres the more or less welded in strip and the start of the pass side trunk corner

Heres a pic of the trunk hinge supports I had to make , the orig stuff was all rotted away ...it might not be pretty but its nice and strong , I got a little more work to do on it but its more or less done. The sedan spare tire mount will get cut out soon , I was using it to support the tulip panel till I got everything welded up.
