  1. So who else is going?

    Latest Press Release below......

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Aug. 9, 2010) - The 60th Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is Sunday, Aug. 15. What began as a little gathering for car buffs in central California's Del Monte Forest has blossomed into the world's Concours. The Pebble Beach Golf Links® are closed only once each year -- the third weekend in August when the 18th fairway welcomes an international collection of automotive style, performance and history.

    · The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance was founded in 1950.

    · The Lodge at Pebble Beach™ (formerly the Del Monte Lodge) has been the host of the Concours since the event's inception.

    · Less than 30 cars were on display 60 years ago.

    · 255 cars and motorcycles will line the 18th hole of Pebble Beach Golf Links® for the Aug. 15 Concours. There are 29 cl***es in 2010 including feature and special cl***es. The overall winner - Best of Show - is selected from a**** the judged cl*** winners.

    · Alfa Romeo, Jaguar and Pierce-Arrow are the featured marques for this year's Concours d'Elegance. There will also be special cl***es celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta, the centennial of the Indianapolis 500 auto race, as well as highlighting the styling of Ghia.

    · A special Hot Rod cl*** in 2010 will feature Lakesters and Bonneville Racers.

    · Motorcycles will appear on the Concours show field for the second straight year. Following the initial appearance of a motorcycle cl*** last year, the 2010 cl*** will showcase prewar American road and racing motorcycles, including board-track racers.

    · Participants will bring cars to Pebble Beach from 33 states and 14 countries (including the U.S.). Cars will be traveling from as far away as Hong Kong and Argentina; they began shipping well before the summer.

    · Tonight Show host Jay Leno, who was a 2004 Pebble Beach Concours cl*** winner with his 1916 Crane-Simplex Model 5 Holbrook Skiff, will once again participate on-stage during Sunday's Concours award ceremonies.

    · Emmy and Tony Award winner Edward Herrmann will serve as the Concours' Master of Ceremonies for the 12th consecutive year.

    · The Concours will display over 108 years of the automobile, from the oldest car on the field, a 1902 Mercedes Simplex -- the oldest car still on the road today to bear the Mercedes name - to several new concept and production vehicles.

    · The Pebble Beach Tour d'Elegance will take place Thursday, Aug. 12, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center. The Tour d'Elegance is a 60-mile trip throughout the Monterey Peninsula down to Big Sur, and includes lunch at Devendorf Park in Carmel.

    · Manufacturers use the Concours as a showcase for the more than 800 national and international media who will cover Pebble Beach Automotive Week August 11-15, 2010.

    · More than 20 concept and new cars will be featured during the weekend, including vehicles from Aston Martin, Bentley, Bertone/Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Cadillac, W K Cherry, Ford, Jaguar, Lexus, Maserati, McLaren, Mercedes-Benz, Morgan, Porsche and Rolls-Royce.

    · The Concours raised more than $1 million for local charities in 2009, which means the annual event has contributed well over $13 million to philanthropic organizations through the years.

    · More than 650 volunteers support the Pebble Beach Concours, including several dozen who travel to Pebble Beach from outside the U.S.

    · Mark your calendars! Next year's edition of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance will take place on Sunday, August 21, 2011.

I'm working or I would be there. George is going, keep an eye out for the cigar.

Is that even allowed or are you going to be wearing a suit underneath it?:D

This is one of the dream shows that I want to attend. I've been to Bonneville, GNRS and The Roundup but this one still eludes me. I have to make plans for next year even if I have to miss GNRS.

  17. Its 'just' a car show.....right? :D

I've never had an issue...and after all, there's gonna be hot rods there this year!

The 1st year I went, myself & my ***istant were in line at the Media tent to pick up our credentials for the weekend, and some Rent A Cop asked us if we were supposed to be there....

That rent A Cop don't know style when he sees it...

They say spectators can watch from certain points. But they don't say from where?

So Hot Rods are going to be there this year. Is there anyway to tell the next year that they will invite them? I think it would be best if I go then. Too bad I can't make it this year.

Watch for Gene Winfield on Sunday. He will be there as a spectator.

  25. The special cl***es change from year to year, and generally don't repeat the following year, best thing is to keep an eye on the website around November when they announce the cl***es for the following year.

All I can tell you is that no matter when you go, you will not be unhappy with what you see.

I would like to hit it at a time when Ferrari and Hot Rods are being specially showcased.

I will also need to rent a Hot Rod while I'm out there since there's no way I can get into a Toyota Corrola after my blood being boiled from seeing all that eye candy.

    Thanks for the heads up!

  27. This years Hot Rod cl*** was suppose to take place last year but a number of the cars weren't ready so they postponed it to this year. Next one will most likely be 2012.

  28. I'm flying out Thursday to help my oldest buddy, and HAMBer, Frank Morawski who has been invited to show the Fred Carrillo '27 Ford Modified Roadster raced in 1951 at both Bonneville and at the Dry Lakes. Other HAMBers in our group include Jay Fitzhugh, Mike Shuba and Bill Nugent (HOTROD1940). Bill and his brother have been on the road from Maryland for a couple days with the car, and will meet us on Saturday. Due to the extreem low ride height, and the fact that the car only has an in and out box, without a clutch, the PB folks have asked us to bring the car to the show fiels on Saturday, where we will off load it directly into it's position in Cl*** U.

I would like to invite any and all HAMBers to meet with us at 12:00 for a refined HAMB get-to-gether.

Damn Carillo's Roadster is awesome. THat the Salt Shaker roadster from TRJ right?

  30. NO, I don't believe this Carrillo roadster was the one in TRJ. That car is owned by a fellow in California who basically recreated a clone from some bits and pieces rumored to have been from one of Fred's cars. Frank and I purchased this car some 30 years ago and have do***ented the three owners. Fred, Ralph Potter, who purchased it from Fred, and a Pete McMannus, who bought it from Potter and sold it to us.
It's on the cover of the July 1952 Hot Rod which have scanned, but for some reason can't get to transfer to this thread.

The car will be going to the TJR on Monday after the show for a full photo shoot before heading to Fred's home in Southern California. Fred's health is such that traveling to PB is out of the question, so we're taking it to him! He did see the car some 10 years ago when we had it at Bonneville for the 50th Speed Week. At that time he authenticated the car as the one he raced in 1951 and sold to Ralph Potter. His brother in law and partner in the car, Robert Betz, delivered the car to Ralph in Indianapolis.

The photos I have been able to upload show the car as purchased, and one shot of it 2 years ago at Jalopyrama.
