We went to see a car on Long Island...the seller said the brakes went to the floor and it would need that fixed to drive..he said everyyhing else was ok....after a 1 1/2 hr ride we found the car in the drive way...the front looked like it hit a pole..the front would need a nose....I started to go to the front door and ring the bell..I was thinking that when the guy comes to the door I would with all my might punch him in his jaw hoping to break it...What stopped me was my buddy ask me what I was going to do..he saved that guy and me....Since then I don't take anything anyone says about a car to be a fact...I go look for myself...Miller

No price listed means way overpriced almost every time.

No pictures in an online ad, why even bother to list it? But the worst is "email for pics". So you already have pics of the car on your computer, but you're unwilling to post them? Explain that one to me.

I've also seen quite a few ads with pics of complete, unrestored cars, but then the description says that the car is fully disassembled.

I really like "90% finished! (90% to go)". I'm definitely going to use that.

I like the "Rust free desert/western/whatever car". Some bubbles in paint, minor rust in the usual places.. all in the same ad. Like this one I just looked at on the HAMB:

In the title: complete and *NO RUST*

followed by : The only rust is in the right side door

It's rusty or it isn't kiddies!

  9. selling.. like when they call and say there on the way ,only to never show, or when the do show and spend a hour looking at the car asking lame questions and haggling you, only to say as soon as i sell my car ill buy yours. or ask if you want to trade for some lame ass 88 chevy truck with a mural on it. had one guy try to buy my 64 galixy , but wanted to pay me in euros,

    how bout.....

extremely rare 50's "CANADIAN" pontiac, really kool, built on a chevy frame.. ect... ect.. ect....

YEA,, they are rare but they aren't "sought after"...

yea,, they are built on a chevy frame and have a bunch of chevy parts hence the reason alot of people don't consider them a "REAL" pontiac

parts are easy to get for them.. = yep, except the parts that are not easy to get because it is a 50/50 bastard child

  11. Or else! Take that! Ha ha classic

  12. Meh, smokes a little? Just needs a tune up and maybe a gasket or two, I'll take it!

When I sold my A model RPU project I was as honest as I could be, the first guy to look at it did for about an hour with his mate. Then complained that the rust in the original doors was SMALLERthan the ad said!!
They were about 1inch round holes in either door at the bottom front corners.......... complained the rust was too good? WTF?
Came back with a trailer and took it home the next day though.

    Doc.

PS, Apart from that he was a real nice guy, this was his first car and his mate was a long time rodder.

I've turned down more than that........."usually means"

That's when two fools met ,the buyer for offering and the seller for not taking it !

  14. Funny thing was that I really wanted to buy it even if it did smoke a little!!!:D:D

They think the hard work is done because they have never finished one. "INSIDE TIP" they are never "done"

another one that gets me is when you are asking a fair price and they are asking if you will take less on the phone before they have even seen your rig. Maybe it's WORTH every penny you are asking.

How about someone that won't answer your questions about title, and rust, when trying to do a long distance purchase?

Yeah, there are few on Ebay, like a 1949 chevy convertible real rare but missing the two doors. Boy that helps!!!

Similarly you see old doors for 1930's stuff that look like they have been thru the Iraq war and they say "got some rust out but patch panels are available and they should be an easy fix."
Then you see they have a hell high reserve set so that they will never sell.

  21. One of my favorites:rolleyes: is 90% finished. Then you call the jerkoff and he reads a laundry list of shit the car needs to be finished that's a mile long....including complete paint job

at a yard sale I spotted a 1950 chevy 4 door fleetline OK paint and tired interior and dull chrome but it was complete and looked rust free.
I asked if it was for sale and the owner told me $25K, WOW!
he told me its worth more because its a RARE 4 door model, not like those "ordinary 2 doors" that are only worth about $3-$5K.
    HA!
7 years later and the car is still parked in the same spot.

I am the webmaster for our local Buick club and someone emailed me with a "bargain". He had a 1990's Buick sedan that was "extremely rare" and some "expert" told him it was worth $90,000, but he might go a little lower. Hell it could be gold plated and have the corpse of Elvis in the back seat and not be worth that. Maybe his "expert" should buy it.

Seems most sellers definition of "mint" and my idea of "mint" are completely different.
I hate it when a cars listed as all original and then they go on to say recent paint,
upholstery and engine rebuild WTF. Thats a restored car not an original one

This was one of the best, funniest threads ever. Had to search hard to find it again as I couldn't comment when reading it. I've been looking at cars on Ebay for several years and this sure sums up all the rubbish I've seen. I'm at the point now I can see the rust (and the BS too!!!) , even when there is no pics of it.

    Happens everytime I sell something.
Some jackass on the phone always asks if I,m negotiable on price.
My answer is always- Sure, when you are standing in front of me with a stack of $100 bills.
    Then I,m negotiable

Had a funny on right here on our very own HAMB recently on an old 4 door Dodge Im selling (dirt cheap, as in less than I could get for scrap). Guy sends me a pm saying he doesnt have any money but if I just want to get rid of it he would take it off my hands!! Really youve got no money but your gonna be able to fix up an old car somehow, Thanks for your generous offer but I'll keep it.
