I tried to sell this nice original 1941 cadillac grill in the Parts For Sale section and had no takers. Today I was re-organizing my parts shed and stumbled over this grill for the last time. I carefully set it in my scrap pile in the hopes that someone would come and take it for FREE. Someone out there has to want it? I hate to scrap it but thats where it is has been put till I get a big enough pile to scrap. :(

jeez - get it on Craigslist or something...if HAMBers don't want it someone near you will. Contact the closest Cadillac Owners Club - if you can't find one, look in Hemmings

I don't think you really want to go there. Just saying.

Yeah, it's hard when you can't sell stuff. People get all high and mighty about saving old iron. They spit at people who scrap stuff, and when you're basically giving the stuff away and no one will take it, they get mad at you like you're crazy.

It's like dang, I gave you the best chance I could.

  11. Let UPS box it and include it in the shipping cost!

Hell, I shipped a T-85 transmission to Maryland...build a crate out of an old pallet!

So, you don't want to get paid to box it up and take it to the UPS store?

  13. That's what I mean, include it in the shipping cost...

  14. lol, I shipped a turbo 350 trans to Seattle on the greyhound bus for 65 bucks. Nobody beats greyhound on big shit. :D

I sold a windshield on eBay, the only way I'd ship it was the UPS Store. I figure I'd have proof it wasn't broke before I shipped it if I had the UPS store package it because they wouldn't ship a cracked windshield. They even promised they'd double box it to protect it. Two days later I got a email from the buyer, he opened the box and it was cracked in half. UPS paid for it though, not much of a comfort to the buyer who needed the windshield.

  16. People just kill me. Know how to sell that? Put it on eBay as a "good till cancelled" listing, put it on as fixed price and accept offers, put in big letters "no shipping must come pick it up" and then set the thing in the rafters someplace. Make sure it has a couple good photos.

Just as an example, for $10 at a state auction I bought a bunch of shit a guy didn't want to haul home - a spark plug cleaner, two headlight aimer kits, a couple of light meter things, and some real junk. I put the plug cleaner on just like that with $150 on it, figured I'd take the first $75 or better offer. Monday after the Syracuse Nats a guy hit the BIN button and came up from about 90 minutes away to get it, paid cash and all I had to do was meet him at a gas station up the street. Now by then I'd already sold both headlight kits for about $30 each, so it was basically free money - took me about six months, but the listing only costs 20 cents a month if it doesn't sell.

I wonder how one of these grilles would look on a 47-53 Chevy truck?

I dont think anyone can make any "logic" out of me not wanting to sell it. All I can tell you is I have had it with stumbling over this grill for 3 years. I bought it at an estate sale for $5 so I am not losing much! I sell every week on ebay but couldnt pull the trigger on this grill, so I am happy with giving it away. Blame it on old age!

Well I still have the grill in the scrap pile. I have had several people who say they want if if I will send it to them (it weighs 40 pounds) or bring it to them, but no one willing to put any effort to get it, so I still have it. Come and get it and hang it on your wall (if you have a sturdy hanger) or make a bar-b-que griller with it!

I live in a little town called Granger which is in the middle of the state and about as far north as you can get. I am 5 miles east of South Bend.

  25. Paul, It's Matt in Elkhart. If you still have it, I'll take it. I can pick it up.
    thanks
    Matt

  26. Cool! There ya go! If I wasn't so damned far away I would have taken it. Can't beat the price.

Been trying to sell a grille for months for a '46 Ford, so I know how you feel. Maybe it's not as nice as some, but it's still a good piece. Gonna try again at Long Beach Swap Meet this weekend.

Funny ain't it. I had a old stuck flathead no one wanted, just about to load it up to take it to the scrap yard and a guy pulls into my parking lot, asks what if I'm rebuilding it. I said, "No, it's stuck". He said, "What do you want for it?". I said, "Make me an offer". He says, "I'll give you $200 for it" I said, "SOLD!"

I kind of deal with the same issues with much later cars(2nd gen Camaros :) ). I cut up many cars that are impractical to save, but I try to save everything even if I have to give it away. I cut out every good A pilar, any good sections of roof, any good rear frame rails ect. They dont make a lot of this nook and cranny stuff even in the heavily repopped camaro world. I would rather give it away to some poor schlep who needs it to fix his buget build the right way rather then scrap it. I usually try to get 5 and 10 bucks for the stuff just to cover the cost of sawzall blades, but in the end I dont really care as long as somebody is using it. Guys restoring a car on a shoestring might not be able to afford the $2500 toe board to tail lights floor pan clip when all they need is a chunk of the floor under the seat that nbody repops by itself.
