Hope I'm not off topic here or covering old ground but am rather interested in the 1926,27 Delage 15 S8. I realize they didn't really feature in the US but I think one raced unsuccessfully in the Indianapolis 500 perhaps in the late 20s or early 30s. Does anyone know where the surviving cars are. I have searched the web and see one went up for auction in 2007 but generally not much available data or photos out there on these cars beyond coffee table info. Can any one help re photos, web sites, publication references etc.

Kume, Welcome to the HAMB. this Delage GP car is in the Coiler Collection in Florida, and is the former Briggs Cunningham car. I really liked the looks of it when Briggs owned it and the hood was engine turned, louvers and all. It is the same car that ran Indy in 1929 with Louis Chiron finishing in 7th place. That photo may have been taken at Lime Rock last Labor Day. The restoration is correct for the period with a flat finish to the paint.[IMG]

The Dick Seaman-Guilio Ramponi modified car also claims to be the Chiron 29 Indy car. It wasn't running and didn't sell in 2007 so it came back down here to have the motor done. It sounds spine tingling nasty like an injected sprinter with an 8k redline the mechanics reckon is conservative, amazing considering the opposition were struggling at about half that.
I have a few pics on a 'bricked' hard drive I hope to recover, Kurtis and I posted some pics earlier in the thread.

I don't think those 2 pictures on the left behind the blue car display are Indy but some other brick surface.

If you look at the photo of the Chiron car at INDY it has a Bugatti steering box. I'll have to check the Cunningham owned era photos of the car, I remember the Bug box was on it at that time. The current restoration has Delage box. :) As to the Seaman car aren't there THREE cars made out of it, Chassis in one engine in a second and the other bits in the third?

Interesting that the Hudson is missing a rear wheel, but the knock-off is still in place!

Well spotted Herb. Looking at both photos i think there was some parts retrieving that took place before the cameraman snapped away.

    Welcome to the Hamb.

There were four Factory Works cars built and three of these still exist. The other was used as parts at some stage after a crash. Prince Chula also had two chassis built in the 1930s and both exist today.

  17. Ohhh you discovered me, i´m from Esperanza jajaja...

Between 1926 and 1929 those races were hold in the oval circuit located at the south of de town. That dirt track was about 18 km per lap, with straights of 7.km each one an two semi-circle curves. Was a semi-permanent track performed over public roads.

That circuit has no other name than "The Oval" and was performed by ESPERANZA AUTOMOVIL CLUB, and not lasted more than 1930, neither the circuit nor the club.

Afterwards, near 1945 born ESPERANZA MOTOR CLUB, and establish a new circuit, also a dirt track, but permanent and performed according actual features. Only 2.648 m per lap, three curves of diferents radius, and was located at the north of the city. This was called LOS TOBOGANES on account of the waves configurating the geographical features of the site

September 1928, coinciding with the Patronal fest was to be played the third test in this circuit and the expectation was the struggle between the protagonists of the race last year when Jorge Perin had set a record of 178 km / h and fraction of average Bucci against the team (which won) and with Hudson and Carlos Riganti, Zatuszek insisting starting with Mercedes and came to the fore.

The drivers lined up in rows of three, Juan zerba Balbi took the first place of the race with Delage, but soon he was got over by Perin, followed the first step for control Bucci, Riganti, Zatuszek, Desideri and Mestola. This time it involved a esperancino Aristides Robert, Spa-Castano the car that had crashed in 1926, he had purchased, modified and ran for the first time.

The poor visibility made the Bugatti of Perin crashed into the Hudson of Riganti, Bucci won the race again in Esperanza.

A quick thanks to Kurtis & The37kid for Delage question feed back. Knowledge base on the HAMB is fantastic esp this thread. Absolutely love these cars for their engineering and aesthetics and fascinating story about Louis and his demise because if these cars. Spent the night surfing and see that one sold in 2007 for US$1,635,560 - sounds like a bargain to me.

    Cheers from Kume
