That's not a vintage shot, that's a shot of the woman I took home last night.

A few more pics - circa late '40's-early'50's
of Guy Lombardo and his "Tempo VI" Gold
Cup Hydroplane. One his of later boats,
"Tempo VII" built and raced by Lombardo
in the mid-and late '50's, has ended up
being owned by, or at least in the possession
of, his former hometown, the city of London
Ontario, The city is currently trying to figure
out what to do with the boat - whether to
keep or sell or donate the boat but with much
controversy - first over the actual ownership
of 'Tempo VII' and the manner in which the
city came into possession of it and then, also,
the debate between those in the city who see
the boat as a financial liability and want it
sold and gone as quickly as possible and those
who want it kept in and by the city, restored
and put on display there. Besides the 10 pics of
'Tempo VI' I've attached here, for those that are
interested in the ongoing saga/fiasco surrounding
the fate of 'Tempo VII', see some of the London
Free Press newspaper articles I've linked below.

Actually, that is Ozzie and Harriet watching
the TV! I wondered what they were watching
    and I thought,maybe, "H.A.M.B. TV"?? Take
a closer, second look at the pic. on the TV
screen, I 'enlarged' the original pic a bit and
reposted it here. . The pic's lost some of its
resolution, but now. amazingly, I seem
to see something else on the TV screen not
visible in the original pic! Could it really be??
Yes!!! "HAMB TV" in the 50's!! <grin>:eek::D

Oldsmobile Dealers' ad from June 1942
"Trade in your old 'gas waster' for 'gas
saving', 'next to new' used '40 or '41
Oldsmobile - and all with tires with
plenty of tread on them too!"

I remember seeing this boat run on the Detroit river in the 50's. As I recall it was during the Harmsworth Trophy races. Others that come to mind were Such Crust, My Sweetie, Roostertail and Gale Electric. Can anybody come up with more names?

How about this??? A half-mile long drag
race.....on fuel!!! That must have taken
some massive cajones.....:eek: The pic is
actually a painting from an art series on
early drag racing by artist Cynthia Meyer
    (http://cynthiameyerart.wordpress.com)
but painted from an original photo

Does anybody know anything about this car,
or the half-mile drag races at Reno, at the
    'Douglas-Tahoe Airport'???

Wasn't My Sweetie owned by Horace Dodge and driven by Bill Cantrell? If my memory is correct (no assurance of that), Cantrell was the only man to drive in the Gold Cup and the Indianapolis 500 in the same year.

    ---------------------------------
    The "Italien"'fastback T-bird was a one-off
factory concept car built for Ford by Dearborn
Steel Tubing in Detroit. The car used mostly
'63 T-bird sheet metal, trim and mechanicals
    - and was advertised on the show circuit as a
'63, but was actually titled as a 1962 model
for licensing purposes The car has survived
and has been in private hands since shortly
after Ford retired it from the show circuit in
1964 and has had numerous owners over the
years . A couple of years ago the car
    underwent a complete 'rotisserie' restoration
and last year it sold at Barret-Jackson for
    $600,000.:)eek:)
