The builder must have been a customer or friend of Tonys to put spirit and also under it is Only the strong surive. That was on Tonys Z28.
Dodge question? Did Dodge offer the 440/375HP engine in the 1966 Dodge Charger (later production). The 1966 NED Championships list a new 1966 Dodge Charger 440 in D/SA, as stock Eliminator Runner-Up with a 12.99. The 440/350HP was available in the big-body cars only that year. The 440/375HP was made available in 1967.?????? pc
Early action at Mason-Dixon Dragway, Hagerstown, Md, circa '63. A fairly new Northwind running SS/S. Sorry it's blurry, I was 9 at the time. The Reeder Brother's 63 "Red Cloud" Sponsored by my dad's employer at the time, Hoffman Chevrolet. Note Factory Window Sticker on quarter window. My dad would "Sell them on Monday" after these performances on any Sunday.
1967 in the Charger R/T and the GTX was the fiurst year of production for the 375/440. But....I would not be surprised that Chrysler slipped a few of these out in the '66 Charger just bsfore the build out for the year which went on until the end of June. Dom
After 3 months of not being on this site I thought that possibly I was a little hasty in removing myself because I don't use the "F" word and don't like to read it in a public forum. So...today I decide to come on here and read a few pages and lo and behold on post #7148, I now see the "M-F" word being used! Is this such a low class site that people don't care what they read or how they express themselves? I don't care how common the word is or the fact that every other word comming out of some peoples mouths is "F" this or "M-F" that . I think whomever moderates this should get involved. Needles to say, this time I am gone and will not return to read anything more from this site. Dom
I hear you loud and clear!!!! The only thing worse than "unnecessary" foul language, in my opinion, is when it's being spouted by a female. And, would ANY of you want your children associating with OTHER children who spoke this way? Or would want want YOUR children speaking like this? Being an ADULT is more than just being older than 18. There's a time and place for everything; having some class and manners is'nt exempt from that. Now, I'm NOT a goodie-two-shoes, but I still don't relate well to others whose mouth is in the gutter. Some need to clean up their act, along with their mouth. It won't keep me from the forum, it does'nt hurt me personally, but it's really not the image we need. Some other forums block "certain" words, they censure themselves when others can't/won't. You know who you are. This thread is about Junior Stock, lets keep it clean and reasonable. We now return to your normally scheduled programming. Butch/56sedandelivery.
Hey now that's what I'm talking about! This article is about my Father! I just found out about this article about 3 years ago...Falcon Eddie...I would love to talk more to you about this article...where did you happen to find it? Thanks, Justin
Dom, you are correct there is no place for that here. Let's hope they get it cleaned up and and you return. You have much to add to the group. John
Dom, Sorry you had to run into that after having been away for awhile, we missed you! Hopefully, the offending person will clean up his act and act like an adult, or leave. This has been a great place for we old timers to renew friendships and relive some of the best days in the sport and I would hate to see it ruined by someone with little class.
You guys that are offended by language must be kidding......This is 2010 and I am thinking you watched to much TV in the 50's........ Dropping F Bombs is pretty normal in my life and always has been. Doesn't bother me one bit...... Do any of you know what F.O.G. stands for? Looks like there are some on here...... Lighten up and take it for what it's worth.....someone was offended about some posts and said some harsh things.....Seemed to me like he was the one with the problem.......
I agree with Rich. I have been around the track and a bunch of garages since the sixties. I have heard these words and am not so offended by a person of limited vocabularly. There is a time and a place for these words. I don't think the outrage is deserved, however, it isn't needed in this instance, nor this thread. Pick up a dictionary and expand your mind. There's obviously alot of space in there. I'm not leaving this thread because of a few people using their limited vocabulary. This has been a great source of entertainment and delight, trippin' down memory lane with a great group of people. If you don't like it ...... you can go @#*% yourselves. LOL
Sorry to hear that it's come to that, but to a large degree I understand why you might feel this way. In general this isn't a low class site but there'll always be some who don't understand what a "public" forum is. They consider it to be their "private" forum and no one else's sensibilities or tastes mean anything to them. It's the same people who talk loudly on their cell phones in restaurants and think I want to hear what they play on their stereo a block away. Their freedom to say and do whatever they wish, wherever and whenever they wish, is all that matters to them. The loss of your imput here will be a loss for the rest of us. But I've got to admire a man who has the courage of his convictions.
I'm sorry to see a knowledgable, contributing HAMB'er leave the site because of the "F-word". 'Ya know..........they say that foul, nasty language is the mark of an under-educated individual that doesn't have the capacity to speak their mind graciously and intelligently........so they then resort to profanity to get their point across. I wish I could purge my vocabulary, especially of the F-Bomb, but it takes discipline sometimes when you're hanging the guys and drinkin' some beer out in the garage on a Friday night! But on the other hand, I think just reading profanity is not nearly as bad as hearing it in public. If you come to a particular word that offends you, then you can just stop reading that post and move on to the next. It's not nearly as bad as eating at a restaraunt with your family and actually hearing it over and over from rude, class-less people!
I would like to say that the guys who said they will not return to this thread because they read the F word to relax. There are lots of times when you go out to places to eat, shop etc. If you stoped going to places where you heard someone say F you would never leave your home. Life is too short to let a word turn your life upside down. I was 36 when my brother Tony Pizzi passed away at age 43. You guys are in your 60s and still here! When you guys were racing did you leave the track if someone said F? Don't be so thin skined because theres on in every group. Enjoy this thread because you might not wake up tomorrow! Ps Tony used F,MF and lots of other choice words when he was alive. I would give my right arm to have him here even if he still used those words.
Guys, I'm new to this site and think it's the Best site going! That probably is because I am also from that time and place (spent most of I my life in central Jersey) and remember a lot if the names and faces. As far as the controversy goes I to use that word far too much. Maybe as we sit down to type something on the thread the time it takes to type will give us the time to rethink what we type. Dom, if your out there I was part of the group of guys from Trenton Speed Shop that spent Monday nights feasting on the best seafood in the world at the Clin-Mott with Ben and everybody else. I may be wrong about this but I think you and a couple of other guys from up north made the trip? those were some of the best times and created some of the best stories we can now tell. Lets keep this thread going because from what I can see some of the younger guys seem to enjoy the stories and info we pass on and after all how the hell is anybody going to know who we were and what our time was all about! That's just my 2 cents Gene
I set the National Record a few times at 16.30 and 15.96 they would never go faster than that for me..............
Tony Pizzi did the heads for my first "Tow to the track" stocker Corvette. Then I started to do my own stuff for myself and others for many years before the "ported and Acid" heads became popular.
Lets keep on topic, and BTW who is going to the 50th Anniversary of Island Dragway? I know Don Garlits is! <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="if(typeof(jsCall)=='function'){jsCall();}else{setTimeout('jsCall()',500);}" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
I will be at the Island race Sunday.....Running my 7 second dragster in Super ET......It's no Jr. Stocker...or even a modern day stocker. Some of us (ME) like to go fast and have no issue with modern dragracing cars and or electronics. I personally think those that constantly find things WRONG about modern racing are just plain bitter and lost in their memories....I have great fun with my friends no matter where I race and always have. We have so much fun during a long weekend NHRA race it is hard to pass them up as I have been doing the last few years. My time and money has been going into fixing up my house....Racing has to wait except for a few races here and there.....Island is close and I have been going there for about 45 years!!! I enjoyed the old days...but they are long gone....Live for today....not yesterday.... I would love to be going to Indy......It's very special to me as I have only been there twice.....and saw some very cool things there! I hope to see Garlits Sunday......and maybe if he is available get him to autograph something......or buy a T-Shirt and have him autograph that....No one is more of a true drag racer than "BIG"
Dodge Charger, In 1966 the Dodge Charger was released on 1/1/66. A mid-year production car. The performance engines available were the 383/325HP and a 'Special Order' 426/425HP Street Hemi The 383 car weighed in at #3712. With the 383/325HP rating, it had a weight break of 11.42 wt/hp. It fell into the NHRA 1966 E/Stock class (11.30-11.88 wt/hp). 1966 National Records; E/S,,,,,12.99,,,105.88 E/SA,,,13.52,,,105.50 Looking back, that E/SA for that car sounds achievable. Hard not to believe a, properly set-up 383 (bored +.040 over with ForgedTrue pistons, Dykes rings, engine internals balanced, blueprinted to spec, 7 quart oil-pan, competition 3/angle valve job, Lunati camshaft, tweaked Carter AFB carb, and a tricked curve distributor couldn't run that well. Some transmission valve-body work, a moderate stall converter, to go along with a good set of headers and 7" slicks. The suspension system on those cars required no special modifications. Maybe stiffer rear shocks only. 4.56 or 4.88 gears. It was not a great performer at the track. With its bulky weight #3712 lbs and minimal performance application engine. 10-1 compression, #915 small port heads with 2.08 intake/1.60 exhaust, mild hydraulic camshaft .431/.443 lift, poor flowing low-plane intake manifold, and under-carbed with a Carter 575 AFB (1 7/16" x 1 9/16"). pc pc
Dodge Charger, The 66' Hemi Dodge Chargers were at a severe disadvantage for A/Stock class in 1966. I believe the A/S class rating was 7.70-8.69 wt/hp. The Hemi Charger weighed in at #3895 lbs, and fell into the high-end of A/Stock class with a 8.66 weight/break. The 66' Hemi Coronet was classed in A/Stock also. But that car weighed in at #3654 lbs. The Charger weighed #241 lbs. more than the Coronet and/or Belvedere. Probably worth 3/10's to 4/10's at the track. PC
Hi Vic....Sorry to have missed you at the Beaver Springs race but my buddy had back problems and we had to skip Sundays plans after going to Carlise and York Pa. I drove him home Sunday so he could get off his feet. . Hope to run into you next season if Im still breathing. Terry
Dodge-Charger, An Oddity, The 67' Dodge Charger 383/325HP car weighed #3715 lbs. (11.43 wt/hp). For 1967, it was classed in D/S (11.30-11.89 wt/hp class break) In 1968, when the classes were properly set by the .50 wt/break, it was classed in G/S. The 67' Barracuda 383/280HP car weighed #3202 lbs. (11.33 wt/hp). It was also classed in D/S for 1967, and in G/S for 1968. The engines were exactly the same. Same pistons, compression, hyd. camshaft, #516 casting cylinder heads, valve springs, #968 casting intake and Carter #4298 575 AFB carburetor. The only difference, the Cuda had a very restrictive exhaust system. Poor flowing cast iron exhaust manifolds with pretzel-shaped bends, and a restrictive exhaust pipe system with 1 3/4" piping. On paper, it doesn't look like a 45 HP difference between the Charger engine and Cuda engine. But, put on Headers and you can see why the Cuda was the choice for Stock class. Same engine and class as the Charger, but #513 lbs. lighter. pc
