Wonder why in the USA we have a present 10-12% unemployment?

Check out these photos and see that most of this stuff was built in the USA.

    Not any more! Wonder Why?

1940 Willys Coupe pondering the past but looking to the future.

Now back to the Jack Daniels and Honeybun, both made is the USA.

I remember reading something about a half-mile race somewhere in one of the magazines of the day while I was in Japan serving my country. That would have been 1957-1960. Can't recall the particulars, except that the writer made a comment about the same car usually being in front at the quarter and at the half. He was referring to the comment, "...if I'd had another quarter-mile..."

Great old photo, Kurtis. If that's Winchester, Ind., the tradition continued at least into the 80s. I recall having to run people out of those trees on the backstretch before we could start ASA races.

  5. Those cars were involved in "Fatal Crashes" and were used to convey a safety message to careless and drunk drivers!

Many of the accident scenes were photographed and displayed in High School drivers Ed. classrooms!

  6. Would this be termed as a "Pier Find"?

Re those pics - that's Donna Mae Mims.
I recently found this on her, on the net.
When she passed last year at 82, at her
viewing and funeral, instead of being
displayed in a typical ' open casket', her
body, clad in her signature pink drivinig
suit, was seated behind the wheel of her
pink '79 Corvette! What a way to go!
    Rest in Peace Donna May.

    Not totally so,... Daddy-O! :D

I had a conversation with a really old guy that I met, about this only a month or two ago,... He said it was a big sales tool,... If you notice the banners useually read, "A Jalopy hurt, killed or injured a what ever age person" Not "This Jalopy,... Etc." Most of these cars were trade in's or junkers they bought for this dramatic show,....

It was sponsored by Auto Dealerships, along with a big trade in drive. It was to make you feel unsafe in the car you had,.... If you look close at the pictures,... most of the damage looks to be sledge hammer blows or damage done purposely to the cars,.... Some could have been actual collision damage,... because according to this old guy I was talking with, they bought some of the cars from junk yards,...

Heres the link to the original post about these pictures. (LOTS of additional pictures)

Yeah, 'back in the day', Ford-Thunderbolt
    style
    ' reverse-bubbles were pretty common
on just about everything. They were sort of
the "Camaro cowl induction' replica hoods
of their day that you see put on just about
    anything and everything now!
