TRJ is the best because only the chariots of gods and heros ever grace its pages, never any filler content. One of the few publications that you can sell for face value or more a year after its been out.

The wife and I was ask last year at the Rebel Run Car Show in Lima, Ohio to have the T-bucket done for a mag,I forget the name of it. Any way we said ok, drove over to where he wanted to take the pics, filled out the paper work, spent about 2 hrs. doing all this then he ask if I took his mag, said no then ask if I wanted to sigh up for a year, said no he said well if you don't take the mag you will not be in it. I laughed and said ok thats cool, but you had better not use any pics or I'll have your ***. He said we'll just delete them, and I stood with him and deleted them. After all this went down he tell's my wife that I'm a ***hole, wife told him yes I know I live with him.

I wasn't getting all crazy on you, just pointing out a couple of legal "Facts" in case anyone decided to head your advice
As for the not taking action, it changes when you are in a position to do something, in this case you said stand there and watch them and ignore or something to that affect, so the first question the opposing attorney will ask is "Did you ask them not to take the picture or do anything to stop them?" Additionally it will now be seen as premeditated and Francisco Plumbero will be called in as a co-conspirator acting in collusion as you recommended that course of action that led to the frivolous lawsuit now in question. "In fact Mr. Plumbero, if in fact that is your real name, did you not suggest and outline this course of action as a way to seek monetary compensation by openly discussing this on a public forum known as the HAMB?"

just having fun with you :D

I was completely taken by the thought of your gig in print. The story about the old custom 36 mentioned we should stay tuned. Did ya p*** or will it take more time than 1st considered to get it rolling? I mean, we have this. We can participate, argue, discover, contribute, share and everything in between. Still I'm curious.

I've had alot of cars & many have been in magazines at one time or another. Even a couple of covers. Some shoots were fun but many were time consuming & a PITA.
The final straw was a shoot with my 55 Chevy in front of the NHRA Museum for a Super Chevy Cover. When they asked for a suggested spot to shoot- I said I have a few friends at the museum- let me see if I can set something up. So....I did.
I gave Tony Kelly the info & they sat on it. I was doing all the calling & legwork. Finally- I got the deal set up for sunset- they wanted me there early to cone off the area so there wouldn't be any other cars in the shot. Again- Why am I doing all this?
Tony Kelly said it was a go- he would have a crew there to shoot. I get there at 2pm- wait till 3pm- 4pm-5pm. Turns out nobody showed. So I left. Tony calls me back & we try again the next week. Again- same results. No-show. This happens a total of 4 times over a month's period. Finally- we get the go-ahead. Tony sends out a photographer & ***istant- he's shooting w/ a Prosumer digital camera! Cover shot? They shoot covers w/ film! Or at least they did in 2004. It was a joke. No reflectors, no flash, no extra lighting, nothing. Shoot is over & I get a call from Tony saying none of the shots are useable. No ****. They would need to shoot again. So- a few weeks later, we set it up again. NHRA Museum is loosing patience w/ me now. I get everything set up. All the cars out of the way & this guy shows up in his Nova. No ***istant- just him. He has 2 digital cameras & one film. He spends about 2 hours shooting the car. The guy's name is Mike Harrington- I think it was his first shoot for Super Chevy. He promises to send me a follow-up & some pics. I wait & wait. Nothing. Finally I got sick of calling & forgot all about it. At a show- I run into Tony Kelly & ask about the shoot. He's with another guy. He acted like he didn't even remember. That was it. What an epic waste of time.
I've been asked 3-4 times to have my cars shot for various magazines since & I decline.

Yes, my mistake I should have written within "MY" car community. Meaning the ones I want to be ***ociated with. I don't know about you, but the car shows I enjoy going to, are the ones with the "old guys" at them. The guys whoes cars resemble the kustomization of pre 1970. So even though there are some old farts who put electric seats in thier cars, and "modern" leather interiors, those aren't the guys I care about. Actually I don't really care about anyone but I would be lieing if I didn't say it would mean a lot to me if an old timer looked at my car and said "thats a nice car."

So that's the community I was talking about, the ones we all run a****st within our circles..

Have I ever said no to a magazine?

I can answer in one word, No.

I have been lucky enough to have six different cars in publications over the years.

The roadster has had it's share of ink. More often than not, I have been able to supply the technical info (tons of it) and be able to proof it before it goes to print. Communication afterwards with the person who does the shoot is paramount.

My view on cars featured in magazines is that it preserves a part of history that otherwise would be lost, not to mention I think its pretty cool to see your car in a magazine or on a video.

  21. You realize Mikey (Buick59) is a long time HAMBer and probably one of the BEST photographers in the business today?

Yea- I do. Mike & I talked about this in a PM several years ago when I found out he was a member here. I never had any issue w/ Mike- it was with the magazine & Tony Kelly.

I meant to say- he said the magazine would follow-up & send pics. A typo.

  23. OK, I consider Mike a friend and hate to see a good artist drawn through the mud..............even if he has been known to submit to questionable publications:eek::D;)

Mike's a good guy. Never thought any different- then or now.

Now if Mike was shooting my car- I might reconsider a magazine shoot. ;)

If Tony Kelly was involved? **** no. ;)

  25. Back in my lowrider days,i was asked to do a shoot for Lowrider Mag.I was excited since at the time,my car was the only one of its kind on the show circuit. My only request was that i had no models involved in the shoot.Say what you want, but this was out of respect for my then new bride.I was then given the choice,****ty half naked model on my car,or nothing at all.I told them my reasons, which they didnt care about, and told them if they didnt like it,kick rocks!

My car went on to be featured in another magazine, without models i might add..About 2 years later, another car almost exactly the same as mine was featured in Lowrider. The article stated that it was the first one of its kind..Lame!

Well I guess I have to be asked before I could say no....but I can't help but wonder how many of the conceited ones here have actually been asked except for the ones that stated they had.....opinion could change if confronted...I'm just saying...

It's easy to say how you would react until.....

  29. Thank you Denise..My wife,20 years later,is still by my side...I must be doing something right!

  30. Where do I get a sub to "Kars that ****!!"?

Wow! This thread was a lot more enlightening than I first thought. I had no idea how goofy, arrogant, flaky, and unprofessional some of these guys can be. Of course, I've never been asked to have any car of mine in a magazine, either... It all seemed like such an innocent question in the beginning, too...

Of course, maybe I can get into, "Kars that ****!"...
