  1. Well it took a couple tries, but here's the Hot Rod cover shot with Fred on the left and Robert in the red SCTA shirt on the right.

Brian, we go early and find a spot "in town" to see them cruise by, then quickly get down highway 1 acouple miles past Carmel to a random spot to watch them head south. Then get up into Carmel before it gets to busy...LOL Parking the Caddy downtown might be hard but just find one of the blocked off streets and park against the barricade. The route map is on the Pebble Concourse website. Alan

  4. The car in Jim Lattin's collection was the first Carrillo rear engined T. It raced at the 1st Bonneville Nationals was slowly changed made the cover of June 1951 Hot Rod and was then sold to the team of Stecker & Fuggat they raced at Bonneville in '52 in "D" Modified roadster and ran 171.34mph The same year the 2nd Carrillo roadster ran 180.18mph under the Ralph's Muffler Shop banner.

    1st Carrillo roadster.

I will be there tomorrow through sunday for the 6th or 7th year. Besides the sunday rediculousness, there is the vintage racing at laguna where you can watch people wreck there 5 million dollar ferrari testarosaas and maserati birdcages. walk the pits and talk to teh drives and check out all the silly rad race cars of the past. Stirling moss will be thrashing around in a rs 61 spider should be good times as always. Last year a guy got in line with his replica d type jag and rolled it onto ocean ave with the rest of the fancy pants people, just sort of snuck it in there, that was good fun.

Aha!!! I figured it out. The Fred Carillo story is the next Article after the Salt Shaker Rambler's Roadster in TRJ Issue 33. I got the two confused.

I'm looking at the picture of the roadster and Fred wearing his Road Runners shirt....priceless. I wish him the best and you also. That car is incredible.

  10. Didn't they tell you that they'll take you back home for that too?

No GNRS. The roadster will go back to Maryland.
Hay, that's a lot closer to you than LA!

I want to so bad but there's just no way with this being the first full week that our baby is home from the Hospital after a stint in the ICU. It just wouldn't be smart.......fun yes....smart no. I'll get there in a year or two.

That is closer. When it get's back maybe I can hit you up for a meet & greet with the new owner if I attend the Jalopyrama in Maryland. I have to see that car.

I was so pumped about the car's Pebble Beach presence this year I went and reread the Carillo Story in the Rodder's Journal. It really is one of the best if not thee best articles that they ever put out. That guy is inspiring from top to bottom and it a true pioneer in the Hot Rodding world.

There's a rather, uh, unique Darrin supposed to be there. Black with a "Coupe deVille" styled top. It's reportedly in the original cl***. The history is bit vague as to whether or not the car was built for an actor by the name of Meeks or if it's sporting Alvan MacCauley's roof from the Darrin "Coupe deVille" that some called the "Brown Bomber". Personally I always thought the Brown Bomber was the speedster from the early/mid 30s. The Packard history book also refers to the Darrin by the same name. Adopted? Hard to say. If anybody doesn't mind, how about some good shots of it. I admit it's a love it or hate it car. It got some rave reviews here. Tell me what you think. Thanks in advance.

Is this the car? This one was in Carmel during the tour lunch stop. It was crowded there so it was hard to get many good pictures.
    The paint certainly looked old.
I don't the story on the front fender, the dent looked quite recent though.

Yes, that's the car and that damage is new. Bummer. We had the car less than 2 weeks, the project being interior preservation. Personally I'm on the fence about the style. I love Darrins but always favored the 41s for quality of construction over the early Hollywood versions. The earliest of Darrins were somewhat dubious. Clark Gable said of his, "The farther away you get the better it looks..." or words to that effect. Certainly the Darrins were one of the milestones of customizing that we here on this board usually relate to. In any event, I'm glad Mark and his crew from D&D in OH were able to get it out there in time. It was a challenge. What did you think of the overall car? Not condition, style.

Chet Herbert's Beast III will be out there. The boss man headed out last Sunday with the car. Three of the guys from the shop left on Thursday to help out with the car and check out the rest of the cars.

    I like the styling.
I really like the 3/4 view from the rear.
It's low and I like the lack of running boards as well.
Black with the shade of red used for the interior works on this car.

I was honored to bring the Carrillo roadster out to Pebble Beach for Frank Morawski. It is my first time at Pebble Beach and I am really having a ball. I took a movie today of Alex Xydias helping push his belly tanker into place at Pebble Beach.Wow!
Meeting new friends and we even went to Laguna!
When I get home I will post it all on my website.

If I remember right you spend time at the Packard tent? I'm RIGHT across the isle from it, GAC 25. It's about time we hook up. I looked for you last year, but no one knew who Highlander was.

Yeah nobo, I think I was in GBC. As we get close I'd like to organize a HAMB gathering of sorts.
