  9. Kurtis, That photo of the track roadsters with the kids in the trees is at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Indiana. It was taken in 1946 by Bud Williams of Union City, In. The cars were members of the Mutual Racing Association headquartered in New Castle, Indiana. The photo is from my website, Winchester Old Timers.

    Please stop by and take a look at the other vintage photos on the site. Here is another one from that day.

    The very forgetable Brabham Torana:

    The Torana;
    "The first Torana produced by Holden was built as a replacement for the HA Vauxhaul Viva, and in fact essentially was a HB Vauxhall Viva with a facelift. Holden was gaining a bit more independence from General Motors, its American parent. It was aiming to produce an Australian vehicle built with locally sourced parts, instead of just assembling the imported Viva panels from the UK . To illustrate the point Holden used the name ‘Torana’, an Aboriginal word meaning ‘to fly’
    Not that the HB Torana could fly, it was a tiny 2 door with a 1.2 liter 4 cylinder engine, with a 4 speed manual transmission. It produced a whopping 42Kw of power.
    The 1968 HB Torana series II came out with a Series 70 option. This boosted power to 51 Kw thanks to higher compression ratio, improved camshaft, and the Stromberg carburettor.
    A 4 door body model was also added to the line up, the panels were made locally and even exported back to the UK to be assembled as the Vauxhaul Viva."

    The Brabham Torana upgrades:
    "To commemorate Jack Brabham’s win of the 1966 Formula 1 Championship Holden released the ‘Brabham’ HB Torana. Some of the sportier touches included twin Stromberg carburettors, reworked exhaust manifolds, with sports air cleaners, and bigger exhaust system boosting power to 59Kw. The Brabhams also had wider rims with red walled tyres, black bonnet stripe, and special badging, and Brabhams logo on the wooden gearnob."
