Yep, for sure, at least "15 out of 10" and the
number maybe even be slightly higher than
that! That just proves how good they are
    and why everyone wants one!!!:eek::eek::D:D

Ya' mean one of the rare Massey "Special High
    Performance Option
    " - 'MF-LS7 454/450hp' big
blocks or the option code 'MF-L84'- 327/375hp'
smallblocks from one of the 'Sports Combine'
models and with the rare 'factory optional'
    "Massey-Ferguson script" finned cast
    aluminum covers like these??!! :eek::D:D<lol>

The 5 of the 15 Corvette engines that didn't come in Corvettes (versus the 10 that were) were a Ford factory option on '32 to '40 Ford coupes.:D

They usually have 3/4 race cams, and El-da-brock intakes.

I thought all the early small journal 327s had forged steel cranks?

I'd be interested in knowing the casting number from one of your cast small journal 327 crankshafts. I've seen cast small journal cranks in some '64-'67 283s, but never in a '62-'67 327.

Large journal 327's had cast cranks, but I have never seen a cast small journal 327 crank. If you have one, it must be the rarest crank on the planet.

    Never say never :D

  19. The serial number should give you some clues. I don't know the skinny on decoding them but if the insurance company can you should also be able to do so as well.

The casting number will tell you the intended destination of the engine but not where it eventually landed. I have a '62 Power pack that was intended for a corvette but according to my research they also landed in Impalas as well.

    Good luck.

True, but SAYING you've got something is easy.....in fact, it's free. I'm not big on blind faith when it comes to believing someone's got something that isn't supposed to exist.

  21. This is slightly off your topic but, I have a 1959 Vette 283 and the heads have X-38 cast onto the outside of the heads between the exhaust ports. Maybe this will be helpful to someone, sometime.

  22. It has GM cast into it, it has no compression left and looks like it might have been in a fire even though there's no other sign of fire damage. If it starts at all, the blowby is so bad you have to hook the fuel line into the oil pan to keep it running.

not so much.....i know of a few (probably 10 or so ) around here .....and there isn't a vette motor in any of them.. now for a vette buy....a friend bought a old mini rod pulling tractor a few years back...with a real deal 340 or so hp vette motor. never know what you will find in a barn.......wait, everyone on this site knows what comes out of barns:rolleyes::D

  24. G'day, Saw a 350 Corvette engine on fleabay for cheap so I threw in a bid. Ended up winning it. My brother picked it up for me and when we pulled the pan we found a four bolt block, steel crank, rods with remnants of pink paint, and a windage tray. Heads had 2.02 intake valves, screw in studs, and guide plates. I think I got a real Corvette engine.

My buddies and I always joke about this. I took the motor out of my 87 Corvette and swapped an LS into it. So I then put the stock Vette motor in my T-bucket but I don't tell anyone it's a Vette motor.

    Damn...you're right. Thanks for spotting
this!! I just noticed the 'misspelled with
two "S"es' "Fergusson" name on *both*
sets of the valve cover pics I posted too.
    I don't think they're Swedish though. More
likely, they're cheap, poor quality, 'Made
    in China
' counterfeits of the genuine Massey
    "Special High Performance Option" covers
    - and are probably sold at Walmart and
online by certain evil and unscrupulous
    ebay vendors!!

I've since thrown my bogus Chinese
counterfeit covers in the garbage where
they belong and replaced them and the
pics in my post with new, actual
    'guaranteed genuine' and 'correctly spelled
    with one "S"' -"Massey-Ferguson" covers!
    (see the new pics at
    www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1057848&d=1281860281
    and
    www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1057849&d=1281860281)

Hopefully, my misfortune at getting taken,
will be a warning and a 'heads-up' to other
HAMBERS. When shopping for 'factory' cast
aluminum valve covers for your combine,
always double check the spelling on them
    before handing over your hard-earned
    dollars!!! And always remember, watch
out for Chinese counterfeits and remember,
    "buyer beware"!!!! :D:D:DLOL

Spotting can be easily done with a 3/4 or 1" paint marker.
