The salt was PACKED this year. Tons of people, tons of really cool cars. My dad and I were planning to take the '55 and the '40, but the '40 isn't ready yet, so it sadly stayed home and my fiberglass roadster made the journey. I'm horrible at taking pictures so I made myself a promise that I would just take pictures of everything. Well, that lasted about half the day, then I was so overcome by everything to see that the camera sat unused in the truck. This place is the coolest. Here's some of the pics I took. Hope you enjoy.... First off, the roadster over-heated about 40 miles out, so it went on the trailer behind the old bikes.... Dad and bro in the '55, which ran like a champ the entire time. The TREE! We're getting closer.... Rolling into Wendover.... More to come shortly.....
Now we're out on the salt, tech day. I saw so many cars that I absolutely loved, that about every 10 seconds I saw a new favorite. It's a little overwhelming how many cool cars are out there. This one was my favorite car.... This '40 was beautiful. This was my favorite car.... Some old guy who's name I'll keep secret had this chevy rolling around. It was definitely my favorite car. Another shot of the cool little chevy.... Our attempt to avoid a sunburn was this canopy. Unfortunately, the sun has a way of getting you from all sides when you're out on the salt. At least we felt like we were doing something about it.
This was a cool little coupe... The line for Tech Inspection was huge, and three lanes wide. I heard there were over 500 pre-reg entries this year. Tech Inspection line.... The Monster Energy girls were wearing tight black leather pants. They were both my favorite. I wish Bad Bob was there to take a proper picture... Another cool little coupe...
This coupe was my favorite car! This thing had the COOLEST dash. I think it was a '40 Ford dash, heavily modified. I have no idea what the speedo was from, but it looked like a small 1950's TV screen with a magnifying glass face! Couldn't get a good pic, but here's an attempt at a pic of that dash... I'm a lucky dad. How many 11-year olds would call this place "heaven"... Landon's a real motor head. One of the cool things about Bonneville is that everywhere you look, you'll find a hot rod hiding somewhere!
One of the go-fast cars... Packard was cruising around in his cool little rat rod. (jk Brian) Even random shots of the pits will have cool cars in it. You can't make a mistake out here with a camera. Loved the louvered hood and padded running boards on this '40. This coupe was all original, no modifications. Still more coming.....
Another one of the fast boys.... Hey, Look who showed up!!! This car did a 300+ MPH pass later this day.... Another cool coupe... Ran into Lucky and the Old Crow crew. Nice to meet you guys! Lucky is a real cool guy. Picked up a couple T-shirts, took a few pics, and kept moving... Lucky was working on the belly tanker, while Bobby was cruising around with chicks in this truck. Is that how it usually works? Still more coming.....
Cool '40 pickup... There was a flathead hiding under this blower! Bad picture, but this was the Rolling Bones heading out of the pits. These have to be some of the coolest cars out there. They were my favorite cars....
Another cool little coupe. My favorite, of course.... No wait, THIS one was my favorite... This car was definitely my favorite....
OK, no lie- Dad's '55 was my favorite car on the salt. It was the ONLY '55 chevy there, believe it or not. (wait, there was a cool little '55 wagon)... Getting the '55 and the roadster ready to leave. Headed out! Sadly, leaving the Nugget. On the way out, spotted another cool car! We're outta here! If I can get back out again before the week is over, I'll throw some more pictures up.
That is The Bass coupe. Here is a link to the build thread... The speedo is out of a 56 Studebaker. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=463952&highlight=bass+coupe http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=104314
Wish I was there again! Was just talking with friends about what a blast we had in '01, last time I was there! How's the salt? It looks really dry.
Don't know how you did it but you did shoot a picture of my favorite car as well...........................thanks fot the pic's.
BIG MAC...THANKS FOR THE PICTURES! Your Dad's '55 is very nice, tell him to leave the lawn sprinkler run'n under the car for a couple days, washes out the salt, it gets into everything!!!
Thank you for posting the photos. So far this is my favorite car, maybe 2011 will be the year I finally get there.
