I thought this looked hauntingly familiar, so I did some
digging. This was not only a hairy crash but very tragic,
as well. '24 Nash, rainy night, family just trying to get
home via Connecticut Avenue, Washington, D.C., June
17, 1925. Officials were uncertain, but it seemed that
a mechanical issue may have caused the car to veer,
sending it off the Kinkle Ford Bridge in Washington, D.C.
The car did a 50-75-foot free fall, killing three passengers,
including a child, and seriously injuring a fourth person.
If you look closely you'll see the newspaper copy-dot
pattern. The photo was shot by a National Photo Co.
    photographer. Anyone who's a Shorpy member (it's
free to join), can get more details about this sad accident
-- still a haunting image after 85 years, no?

1909 Cadillac in Sarnia, Ontario. A bit spiffed up too - interesting radiator mascot, bumper, and what appear to be Solarclypse headlamps.

    I have a picture request.

I collected as much info on the Harry S. Houpt Co. that built Herreshoff cars starting in 1909 but my computer decided it no longer wanted to be my friend and i lost almost everything. If anyone comes across a photo or two, please post them here. It would be much appreciated.

How's this, for a starter? Maybe others will post what they have in time. Sorry about the crash.

Wow, Twin-6! ANY background on this at all? (What is it,
when made, when pic was taken, where located, etc., etc???)

This is a Houpt Rockwell made in Bristol, CT. Harry Houpt was in NYC I believe and Kurtis is looking for photos of a different car. I think I remember seeing a photo and article in the Bulb Horn on one of the Herrsehoff cars.

Jimi, you cross-poster you! I think I put that up on another thread because I wasn't sure if it was taken in the 1950's, but in any event, it's a Locomobile according to TH, who will have to chime in with details, like wheelbase and displacement. Wicked machine, eh?

Mea culpa, sorry 'bout that. Hey, at least it was a race car for kurtis. I've got nothing for Herreshoff photos.

I made the same mistake myself earlier..... I have some neat Houpt Rockwell photos I will post when I can find them. Previous to being the H-R it was an Allen-Kingston made in NY State......

Based on the chassis components I can see and the oil pan believe it is a Loco.
They originally had a 142" WB but in this Special someone added maybe another 12" ??? because they must of had to have the biggest car around.

Sorry Twin! LOL. I didn't mean to wickedly cross-post out of a lack of ocnfidence. I was just a-jonesin' (impatient, I guess) to know what this rather "clever" and unusual machine was about.

The car LOOKS ancient! But if you think the pic was actually snapped in the '50s, I'll surely retract it. BUT, I'd sure still like to know the approx. year of the platform on this special-ed., and naturally any specs.

Over on another thread, I've been trying to find anybody who knows about a 1916 "so-called" Liberty-LaFrance (officially, there was NO such make) that looks a lot like THIS car. AlsAncle said it looks like the Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang creation for the movies. It's a hunger, that's my excuse!

Yowee, T-Head, 142 inches, and osmeone added up to a foot?? From the looks of that hood, it DOES look like it, though!

That's OK. The Houpt-Rockwell and Allen-Kingston were very much the same car and the Herreshoff is also a part of the story. With time i'll be on top of the research i started before the computer dropped a valve. Thanks fellas.

    Photos below of a Houpt-Rockwell Raceabout T-Head posted on the AUTORACING thread. The middle photo shows the similarities with the Allen-Kingston.{top}

My father is quite confident these were snapped in the late '30's. My great-uncle bought the garage just after the war, and Dad spent countless hours there in his youth. The building without the pumps is now a bar, and the other was knocked down years ago. These are kitty-corner to each other, and on the other corner is the building that built the Tudhope cars--first McIntyre, then Everitt knock-offs.

Great craftsmanship. Can anyone recognize the make?
