So I posted this thread kinda accidentally lookin for the wrong thing....im lookin for a reproduction 57 chrysler 300 air cleaner assembly..well two of them...not the batwing for say..but they are cool though
chrysler 300 ? hell, i thought the batwing was old cads , olds ,i got one off a 56 rocket 88. the mopar ones are really rare & $ $ $ $
i dont think anyone repops the 57 chrysler air cleaners which i believe are the one your lookin for. the ones that hang off to the side of the engine? the ones pictured are 58 air cleaners. they were used on the 300's, fury's and anyother factory dual quad motor.

Would you lugnuts please stop calling every cool factory scoop "Batwings"?!?! "Batwing" air cleaners are the triangle-shaped 2x4 air cleaner assemblies originally on '50s cad and Chevys. They have a pair of oil bath air cleaners hanging down, next to the rear carb. They are NOT '50s Olds air cleaners with the two inlets on the side, and they are NOT Chrysler 300 air cleaners. And while I'm on a rant, it's EDELbrock, not ElDebrock, it's "WHY-AND," not "Wee-Land" and it's "Will-Wood," not "WILD-Wood." -Brad
Batwings air cleaners were used on 55 and 56 300. In 57 they used the curved neck air cleaner with oval lid hanging on the sides, and in 58 and 59 they used oval air cleaners. I think only the oval air cleaners are being reproduced. In 60, 61 and 61 they went to crossram induction and round air cleaners. Also Packard used batwing air cleaners, in 56 I think.
You're absolutely right... I should have said "Like the" and followed up with "It's not limited to..." But yeah, THAT is a Bat Wing air cleaner. The link the OP showed was for a different 2x4, and people are always calling the 1x4 twin-opening Olds/Caddy air cleaners a "bat wing." Irritates the hell out of me. -Brad

Yeah I'm with you. I have an original Olds/Caddy unit on my roadster. It was never referred to as a "batwing". I have a lot of pet peeves with mis-named parts too. Not being a Chrysler guy I Googled it to see what they were talking about and was surprised at how close it is to the GM units.
Is this the type you're looking for? I picked this out of a trash barrel at a Norwalk MOPAR swap meet a couple of years ago. It looks like a 2 bbl to me, with a paper element.
How accurate do you want this to be? The '57 300s used their own air cleaner setup, it wasn't shared with DeSoto, Dodge, or Plymouth. To be more accurate, the 2x4 setups on Mopars are ALL slightly different in size, shape, and angles. Here is a stock '57 setup, I'm not sure if the colors are 100% accurate, but they should be about that shape. They are not reproduced that I am aware of.
Those old WCFB 4-barrels had tiny openings, I want to say 4 1/8". For reference, a standard Holley 4v is 5 1/8". You would have to modify the air cleaner throats to fit any modern carburetors. What is this going on...?
This photo was not taken to show air cleaners in particular but I think this is what you are looking for. Photo shows a unrestored '58 Chrysler 300D. Same "football-shaped" oval air cleaners are used on '58 and '59 and '62 Chrysler 300s and '58 and 59 DeSoto Adventurers at least. This type have been reproduced a couple of times both in the US and overseas. The bases are the smaller diameter as mentioned in a post above.
I used harley davidson air cleaners. looks almost like the 58 chrysler 300D air cleaners and cheaper too. made my 315 hemi look like a d-500
The correct term from Chrysler was "Delta Wing" and not Batwing as so many state. Chrysler was the only one to have the four ribs on the wing and even the interior of the pods differed between the two years and the two pieces used to make those up will not interchange. The photo is my '56 300B 3N561382. Also, there were three variations of the '57 air cleaners used through that year.
