After reading this entire thread I may redo the ad I have on Craigslist. I'm really embarrassed over what I put in it. No wonder I'm not getting any calls. Thanks for putting me on the right track fellows.

I don't have a problem with Posi as a generic name. For instance on a Pontiac ( instead of Safe T Track).

I DID ask a guy one time. He said that a limited slip would spin one wheel ?????

I have never met a girl on the internet that looked like her picture. Chicks are big into false advertisement. I can tell some real wack stories from those days. 5'3" 110lbs. Funny.

Two things just grate away at me:

1. "Ran when I parked it". If it ran then why did you stop driving it? For the uneducated this must mean "If I bring a fresh battery can I drive it home?" For the rest of us it means a new motor at a minimum.

2. "All steel with fiberglass fenders." It ain't all steel then, is it bucko???

This has been hit before. I had a '67 F250 Ford 4X4 that ran well, and everything below the body worked. The body was beat, and with a closed knuckle front axle, it had the turning radius of a B model Mack, which required a couple of attempts to get it into a tight parking space. Since I no longer spent my summers running equipment at the rock pit, I no longer needed to drive it. I have enough projects, so throwing money at that old pickup, much as I liked it, didn't make sense. For the sake of safety, I would have had to at least replace the rubber brake lines, since IMHO, only a fool would trust 40+ year old rubber. So, it sat until I sold it; it ran when parked!

 

I think someone mentioned RARE. Yes there are rare things, my 1942 IHC 4X4 USMC frontline ambulance was one of 800 built in '41-42, most went to the Pacific islands ( ironically some probably came back as Datsuns). My 1952 Marmon-Herrington Ford R32 is one of less than 1,000 built. I don't mind someone saying their Nipponsaki is rare, if it truly is. The problem is rare in relation to what?? Most convertibles are rare if you compare them to the same model with a fixed roof. What really chaps my @$$ is when some dork says, "My Nipponsaki is so rare you'll never see another one". I haven't said that about either of the aformentioned 4X4s to anyone. Maybe that person has seen one before, or maybe they could care less! I know at least one such guy in my club. He tells everyone that they'll never see another '53 Ford Sunliner since they are so rare. The other members, who have actually gone to regional meets would look at him with WTF in their eyes.

 

Here's a new one that I saw on Craigslist yesterday.

What the heck does that mean? The same guy used it in ads for several different cars...some are running cars, some are junk yard refugees.

 

Agreed! We know a guy that has a freakin "K" car, and anytime we're all together yapping about cars and about our rides,(our '53, my buddy's '64, in-law's '56) he ALWAYS refers to his '84 convertible "MARY KAY" car as his "classic"! ugh...

 

Some of my favorites;

"Runs good but probably need the carb cleaned"....

"car has a big block 454 in it (it's a Buick by the way)"

"Rare"

"paint in great shape" (picture taken at dusk and of a wet car making it look ultra glossy and slick)

"only leaks a little oil" (is that because it finally ran out of oil as evidence of the multiple, Exon Valdez sized oil stains on the driveway in the picture?)

"Engine runs strong but smokes on start up, shut down and when driving"

 

I'm not even subscribed to this thread, but every time I log on, there it is (AGAIN!) in the top ten, with the title "misused discriptions that irritate or annoy you" staring me in the face, reminding me constantly that there are so many people in this world that are so irritated and annoyed by such trivial shit.

How about "Bomber seats"? Were they in an aircraft that actually dropped bombs, or very good replicas? Or just nice seats made but a guy with a bead roller, rivets, and a lot of talent?

 

Actually "ran when parked" does tell me a few things.

To me it is very different from "Parked because of a thrown rod", or "ran it until tranny broke", or "parked due to a strange rattle".

Often they are trying to be helpful. I would probably use that description too if I parked it due to lack of interest on my part. They are simply letting you know they didn't drag it in with a broken crankshaft or something. It can indeed make a difference if it hasn't been sitting for too many years.

 

I have to agree with this one. I have a truck that has been sitting for months. There is a loose wire somewhere; the truck runs, intermittantly. I wouldn't trust it to not leave me stranded, tow it home, and start right up again in the driveway. I just don't care to re-wire it!
