I agree! In the past I did buy OSR once and awhile, but I got sick of the pics of rusty r*t rods and tattooed *****s. The only car mags I buy sometimes are Rod and Kulture, Hot Rod, and Rod and Custom. Who needs car mags when you got the HAMB?

My car will probably never be show car quality, good enough for a magazine, but if I was ever asked...I would probably say yes to to a real car mag like R&K, Rod and Custom or TRJ...

That would be AWESOME!!! You could go around to all the shows and take pictures of cars that ****. All the editorial would be ripping on every car pictured. And - OH - the technical articles.

I've never been given a chance to say no, the times my cars showed up I had no idea the pictures were being used. It is nice to see an old car now and then, but I do have a couple shots that were used in a Hot Rod Surf book that if asked I would have declined letting them use...

the "Cars That ****" comment made me think about that, might not be a magazine but I can name a book...

Oh it would be huge!! When I was traveling to events all over the country for the magazines, I would always shoot images of WTF? cars for the fun of it. Then when I shared my images with friends, I would show them the cool stuff that was there and then I would show them the WTF? cars. As you might guess, the WTF? cars were huge. I had more request to see those images than the images of killer stuff. I still have a huge file of these cars on my computer. Whenever I need a good laugh I just pull up those images and laugh away. You know as well as anyone else, the number of WTF? cars greatly outweigh the ones that are killer.

Righteous car, you don't need me to teach you about customs. But the a***ude towards the OSR and CKD are a little hypocritical.

There's an old saying, "You are known by the company you keep", that pretty much sums this subject up...

  15. I've had an OT car in an OT newer car mag.

I'd love to have my Merc in a mag, but only one of the big ones. I've occasionally but pretty much all of the hot rod and custom mags out there, but some of them I'm not into, the stuff where everybody looks like a biker or the cars have spider web graphics etc.

  17. Some guys wouldn't want a model in front of their car, what the ****? I wouldn't do it UNLESS there was a model! How is is disrespectful to the anyones wife, unless she offer to pose instead? I wouldn't care if some chick sat on my peeling off paint fender, either, I do it all the time. Unless she was fat enough to cause a dent.:(

  18. First off unless you are building cars for a living there really are no pros or cons. They take pics of your car, write up a story or not and a few folks see it. More often than not the writing is going to be ****py or the pics or both. Check out the rag and see if you like what they put out.

As for ever turning a magazine down. I doubt that will ever happen to me. I would be su****ious if one wanted to write up one of my vehicles, unless it was going to be what not to do to get into a magazine. :D

Some advice from an old fart. If you decide not to do the shoot be sure and be polite.

A few years back one of the local photogs and writers was working for a small and insignificant magazine. He approached a fella at a local cruise about shooting a feature on his 49 Ford G***er. The fella told him to go **** himself.

Fast forward and the photog was on editorial staff for a larger more impressive magazine. He was covering a local show and the fella from the g***er now had a Blown Bucket T. He asked the photog if he wanted to get some pics of his car. The photog just smiled and said, "Naw, why don't you "Go **** yourself.""

    True story.

Anyway no matter what you decide be nice. ;)

  19. I dont think it was hypocritical at all.You never asked me if I had ever had a car in this magazine,do you think I would try to hide it?Thats pretty tuff after it has been published dont you think? This article is the reason I can speak when this company's name comes up.This was done before the car was finished and I was committed thru some friends. The reason I went thru with it was I didnt want to start a big rumble between a real good friend of mine and the company. The shoot was a joke the pics were a total joke and the spread in the mag was downright embarrasing. They did get permission to shoot at the Griffith Observatory while it was closed,so I thought well at least I will have shots of my car at the observatory right ? It cant be that bad, well as you can see we could of shot behind 7-11 and nobody would of known the difference, they didnt even use a picture that showed the observatory in the background.Thats my point these people dont know customs, this layout dont show hardly anything that was done to this car.It was a total JOKE !!! If it had a pbr shift knob, and a shifter that hit the headliner and a bunch of webs and unfinished stainless around the windows it would had a huge spread in the mag.Point is ..... this car has no business in this magazine, what they consider to be a custom is totally different then what this car is.

I know drama isn't considered HAMB friendly, but this has been quite interesting.

I turned down a cover shot offer a few years back w/my '29 DeSoto... ...couldn't afford it.

Not to mention the smaller size ads in auto trader did the trick, just fine.
