We have a group of guys going from the Green Bay area. Just thought we should check it once and decide from there whether or not the extra 2 1/2 hour ride is worth it! I love driving my 57 chebby. We're just trying to think how early we have to leave on Sunday to hit the swap in that town next to Morris on the way home.

Not even! More like 2, and you won't have to drive through downtown Chicago. You can avoid Chicago traffic completely. Google shows 4 hours from Milwaukee to Forsyth (northside of Decatur where the Pileup will be). Milwaukee to Morris was 2.5. It will actually be less than that. Personally, I'd enjoy the extra Fall road time. Think of all the leaves changing colors. Rumbling motor. Or you could wuss out and take your modern car, but still enjoy the show... kicking yourself the whole time wishing you had brought your car... but still enjoying the show.

Yeah, I can lay it on thick. :D

    BTW, where's your intro, stranger?

That town IS morris! :D The Lion's Swap. Better look it up and make sure it's even happening this year. Sometimes they change the date.

Yeah, it's sad. Car guys that don't enjoy driving. Then again, I don't tihnk twice about driving the 5 hours to Symco or the 5 hours to the Rust Revival, or the 3 hours to the Road Rockets show... or the 20+ hours to the Roundup. 2-3 hours and I'm just settling in. :D

You were here this past weekend? I didn't see you.

I don't think it is the drive, it is the $$. Most people can't afford the extra gas, or the extra day off because of the long drive. Then put a family in the mix and it may not be as easy as it was before. I think the pileup is going to have a lot of new faces this year.

I'll be there, at least this year.

No, I couldn't make it this year for a number of reasons, but I did drive up there last year, and I'm planning on going next year. I still don't think 2 extra hours is a big deal, especially to a car guy, but that's me

I agree, but here is how it works in real life...
130 miles further = 260 miles. let's say 15 miles per gallon is about an extra $45 in fuel for the weekend. Now I heard that the post party is further away from the grounds? More fuel there too. For the people who can't take a day off of work, that means if you are where I live, your pulling into Decatur pretty late, well past midnight. Which means missing the preparty. Or you take a day of vacation, which for some of us means a couple hundred bux out of our pocket. If you were close enough to drive back and forth before, now you have to get a hotel...nother couple hundred bux expense. You could be talking $500-600 cost for a ONE day show. I know a lot of people who can not afford that.

The problem is that ALL the good traditional shows means driving a distance. Add up what it costs to go to the pileup, symco, rust revival, torquefest, s**** drive, road rocket rumble and it is in the thousands. Even if you went budget and only spent $200-300 for each show your still talking around $1500 for the year. I know my cost is easily $5000 a year going to shows. Now on a $15/hour income with a mortgage and kids, this is not an option for a lot of people.

That is why my show is low buck and I keep prices on concessions down. I will try to keep it that way as long as I can.

Your right, real car guys will do whatever it takes, but with the way our economy is right now, that isn't a realistic comment for many people.

Now on the flip side, there are a million more people who are saving money this year because it is closer! We should ask for a kickback from them to cover our costs!

When I was in Indy for the Road Rocket Rumble - there was a guy from West Virginia telling me he would now go to the Pile Up - cause now it is not in Chicago.....even though it was miles and miles away - many people were afraid to drive up to the big bad city.....
I know 3 guys from SE Missouri that are heading to the new location as well that have never been to the Pile Up in years past.

Arkansas, Ky, Southern IL, TN, MO, and OK will have a lot bigger presence this year at the Pile Up

Even if you dont take your hot rod - you are gonna want to show up just to see all the new cars you have never seen before.

why don't we all just combine all our shows to one day and one location! It would save us all on advertising and just think of the HUGE party we would have!

The thread seems to still be going. Someone asked for breasts. It's not my fault they didn't specify what kind of breasts.
