Projects 59 El Camino.. Build Pics

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by J.Fishbeck, Jan 2, 2010.

  1. Thanks for the words..
Once it's coated, it seems like a done deal. I have a thing about being able to take it back apart again. I will just have to be easy with the bed floor. I would rather put more of 'my' time in it, instead of turning it over to someone I would have to hurt, if they did something I couldn't live with. Yep, control freak!

  2. I can't wait for this show, 10 bucks gets two bbq meal tickets & hours of cruising all over Riverside, Ca. Should be a blast.. actually looking at about 200 cars to be a little more exact.

I did lots of floor repair this weekend, then buddies came over and things ground to a halt, it was more fun hanging out than working. I got a bunch done, but not as much as I wanted to, I'd post pics but they're boring.

  5. My bed floor is junk. I was thinking about cutting the floor out of a late model truck & using that to replace the one in mine. Seems easier than repairing a floor that is too far gone.

    J. Fishbeck, did you ever consider this?

  6. Its funny when it comes to doing things, that aren't exactly eye candy related. I don't blame you. Since I cut down my skateboard ramp, nobody comes to visit me anymore.

  7. That in itself will be a lot of work. The mounting points, the shape. I would try and find a long bed.. The bedfloor continues on the t/gate, so you will have to make that work, also. Use the original B/F as the pattern to cut the shape out. It's curved to fit the divider panel. Find one that the stamping won't be to deep, so that it sits flush or lower than the sides of the bedfloor. You can always add strap steel to the bottom to raise it to where you'll need it. It's always something.. and then something else after that.. an and..

JJ did you find what you were looking for at Pomona?

  9. I didn't go, I wasn't able to get Dad to go with me. I should've went, but I'm used to going with him. I need to get over it

  10. The instructions have me questioning how well it will work, on its own. I'm not using a radiator with the trans cooler in the bottom tank, like the illustration shows.

    Jay, PLEASE say nooooooo!

  15. I am going to put some more time in on my bedfloor, in the morning. I personally don't care for the wood bed in my vehicles, but to each his own. I don't think an El Camino would be a good look with wood. Or bedliner for that matter. If I know I'm going to pick up something big and nasty, I will make plans to protect the bedfloor. If you had as much time as I do in mine, you would prolly do da same!

No way ever with a wooden bed, or diamond plate for that matter.

  17. I agree

The grinder an I are good friends, now. Lots of quality time together. Love Hate relationship, you know..

The arrows show the row of dents I can't get to. The support is there.. it never came off, because it was still in great shape. I think I might use lead to fill those dents. 'Eff it.. it's only the bed. An I need practice with using lead. Then I will move on to leading the t/gate.

  20. Found another hole to fix. Also have to finish stripping the underside of the fin. I have to make the bracket to hold the window regulator motor, that will actuate the t/light shenanigans. Then I finish up the quarter panel.

The original paint is stubborn. The lead in the old paint, gave it a lot more integrity.

These just showed up, My hood opening moldings & the horn ring.

One of the pieces, is NOS. The others are just as nice. All the attaching bolts are perfect.

What is the matter with a wood bed floor? properly executed I think they should look good. Just my 2 cents though. I have heard that there is someone reproducing the elky bed floors but I don't have any other info on them.

Those are the same car and have been photoshopped.......note the license plate.

  27. I like how the gas filler provisions are gone. The wood looks okay in the pics. It's just that I have an appreciation for original bedfloors. A respect for the time required to keep it looking factory. Not saying that the wood is a cop out, I just don't like to compromise on the essentials.

  28. Damn, lying here trying to fall asleep.. Watching 007 'The Man With The Golden Gun'. They wreck a cherry 2dr 55 150. All the other junks in the movie, an the faggot director had to ruin the Chevy. That's some pro homo shit.. I'm goin to bed

  29. The wood looks fine but IMHO, in either of the photoshopped pics above, a painted stock bed floor would have looked better.

  30. I just got off the phone, with the gentleman that sold me, the hood mouldings & horn ring. 3 of the h/mldgs are NOS. I appreciate that, yeah.. I don't have to $$$ to get them reanodized! Now, I just need to get the frt & rr bmprs, plus the door handles chromed. I can apply that savings, towards the polishing & plating. Goodtimes!
