Gene Winfield went to the ER this morning

Gene had an accident last night and they made him go to the ER this morning. He is ok and all is now well.

 

Glad he is OK, we have lost a lot of icons lately.

 

They are dropping like flies... passing through a mig welder's flame. It is a bit alarming.

Good that he is okay though.

 

I am not sure what happened to him, but somthing happend in the paint booth and it looks like somthing out of CSI.

Well Gene is painting a special project right now and was on a creeper spraying rocker panels last night.......

Had the spray gun with about half a quart of HoK base coat in his hand.....

He had the gun about a foot above his face and was spraying upward when the cap let go......

With eyes wide open id dumped right in to his eye......

I got to work this morning and his right eye was swolen shut and he was in alot of pain.......

‎3 guys had talked to him and tried to get him to go to the hospital but he wouldent go.......

When I went to his house, I told him to get dressed and he WAS going to go to the hospital......

On a high note, I met a cute woman a little older than me and Gene got her number for me. Even all tore up he was on his game.

update from Office Guy [30 mins ago]. Gene is doing better today and says thank you to all you friends and fans for your concern. That being said, he did take the day off and will probably spend the weekend resting(I hope). I did get to see him wearing sunglasses today and that was......interesting to say the least. I got a chance to venture to the paint booth today and it looks like a crime scene straight out of CSI

 

fuck man that sucks! glad hes going to be ok! how about we all chip in to buy him a paint gun with a lock top! im game for that!

He's lucky you got him to go to the hospital, you have to keep the eye from swelling or you permanently damage it. Good call.

hate to hear of that happening to anyone. especially when i was just doing the same thing the other day and had a vent hole drip come above my tape and hit my cheek. glad he is ok and has people around that will "make" him do the right thing. good work moter.

 

great job getting him to the hospital for attention ...you my friend deserve a purple heart for saving one of the greats ....

I have been to gene's home, and he is awfully proud of his trophies and racing awards, he is a man that has put his heart and soul in his work and racing, I'm not saying he is poor but he has worked very hard for what he has, and he doesn't spend money on things that aren't necessary, if he wanted or needed a locking cap he would have one, and I'm sure he will invent some special piece of tape or something to insure this doesn't happen again. Gene is a genious and will figure out the cure, rest assured.

 

Glad he's doing ok! When my left eye swelled shut, the old lady drove me to her doctor... The doc sez I need to go too emergency... Make a long story short, I was in there for a month 'cause of a brain tumor.. I wouldn't wish that shit on anybody.. I ended up taking a year off to re-coop.. That was back in '03. I'm 80 lbs lighter now and I have more energy..

thats not the point, he's an honest hard working man. and to show him that a young guy really appreciates what he has done for the custom world of cars! i dont know him, but im the type of guy that would help out an old ww2 veteran because of what they went through! last time i went to hawaii i gave a gentleman that was a pearl harbor survivor a ride home so he wouldnt have to pay for a cab! a kind of a thank you, for my freedom!!!!!!

 

Speedy recovery Mr. Winfield......Take sometime off!!

he made my week at Salina, I was sitting in my riv and he jumped out of his ride and took pics of my car!!!

 

As they say "SH-T Happens". That's why they call them accidents. But, a painter's eyes are very valuable and a lesson learned for all of us. Glad he will be OK.
