Hello, I read a lot of the 88 threads and got a good grasp of what I wanted to do with this car. I acquired the car through my wife. Her father gave it to her. It was sitting in their drive way for 8 years and now i have it. We had it towed in front of our home I want to salvage it and work on it over the course of some years. I don't know if it has a 303 v8 or not. A man who said he was p***ing in my neighborhood said he recognized the car and that he was an owner of it at one time. He offered to buy it back. He said he replaced the original motor with one from a cutl*** supreme. My wife said her parents gave her a totally different story for the car so I'm not sure where I'm at. The car doesn't run but I'm told it ran before it was parked indefinitely in 2002. It's missing, a****st other parts, a batter and some spark plugs. I removed the air cleaner. I'm looking for some help identifying the motor and any other advice. I've been to kanter and egge but don't want to make any major purchases before I id the engine. I may just tow it to a mechanics shop and go from there but I have family members and friends who have built cars and would be willing and able to help me out in a similar capacity. This is my first post after lurking. I hope the picutres work.
Not a 303, looks like either a Cadillac (what I am thinking) 429, 472, or a newer Olds. Trans is probably newer too.
Definitely a later Olds engine. With the Rochester 2 brrl carb, I am guessing a 350 from the early seventies.
it looks like late 70 s early 80 s olds motor probably 307 olds.rochester two barrel & hei distributor gives it away. the neighbor its right.
I'd try to get it running first. If it's bad, just look for another Olds with a 350. Those things are a dime a dozen.
If you have hood clearance, you can put in anything up to a 455 using the same mounts. Look at the numbers above the water pump. They will tell you what engine you have. then reference back to Olds.FAQ on 442.com to find other facts.
If it's sat for a long time with plugs out, being a 307, I'd just chuck it and put in another engine - any Olds block aught to bolt up to the mounts and trans, may be able to use a Buick or Pontiac too. Chevy engine won't fit the transmission, unless it has one of the 200R4s with both bolt patterns. The reason I say chuck it is at the least you want a look inside the open cylinders to check for rust or damage, and by the time you buy a gasket set and all to put it back together, you aught to be able to just buy another running 307, they're barely worth their weight in s****.

Hate to bring a thread back from the dead but I thought I'd give you all a small update. Found this number on the engine: 557751-2b A google search helped me find out it's a 4.3 liter v8 260 cbi. She turns over but doesn't start. Trying to figure out if I need a new fuel pump, new distributor/cap, new spark plugs or whatever. I saw a local ad on craigslist for a 307 from an 86 cutl*** for 150 dollars. Gonna spend a weekend or two more on getting the current engine running. I am considering a 307 though or another olds engine.
A 307 Olds is a good engine. I put 250,000 on one in an '84 Buick and almost 200K on another in an '86 Regal. Rather gutless but dependable. It will have an electronic carb but a Quadrajet will fit right on. <br /> <br /> If you find one and it has been sitting a while, make sure you hear it run. Not just start, but run and warm up. Both of mine, after sitting for a time (maybe 2 years) started right up and after a few minutes sounded like all the lifters, and/or the cam and maybe some other stuff was trying to get outside the engine. Really hammering.
