The Barris built Jerry Quesnel Merc is one of my favorite Mercs.I think it's easy to see why. It's such a good looking car with an awesome chop, simple front and rear mods, good flowing body lines and the right stance. It's just the perfect Merc ! I know many people dig this sled but for some reason it never got published the way it actually deserves. At least this is what I know and that isn't much... I only got these pics out of books like the Barris Kustom Techniques(where the Merc also is pictured in white primer),the American Custom Car and yes, even one pic out of the Rodder's Journal. I wonder if there's anybody out there who might have some other pics than the ones mentioned above ? Any kind of info is greatly appreciated and I hope to receive some replies.Thank you. I heard Scott Guildner is building a Merc inspired by the Quesnel car.Anybody knows more about that one ?
The only magazine article that I'm aware of was the March '52 Hop Up shown below. After the Merc Jerry owned an equally as low 52 Ford Victoria.
One of my favorites from the early days too. That car is the epitome of the less-is-more theory. An absolute masterpiece of understated perfection. However, I have no additional pics to offer - other than the sources you've already mentioned.
Absolutley the dogs danglies, I will also be waiting for some more/better pics of this one. Thanks for putting it up the Frenz john.
hey goozgaz, there once was an ankle biting doggy named "chiquita" who lived at 711 (seven-eleven) treat street. this was in barrio de mission ese......where the legendary ese loco caveman was said to roam. anyway, this crazy vato loco chiquita told me that there was this hombre named "lil flea"....and flea was not only cavemans brother but they have attended paso robles since 1989! anyway, flea looks like a baby wolfman jack. wolfman jack use to be called "THE INFAMOUS METAL-FLAKE MAN". and yes the mysterious metal-flake man is said to be secretly building the baddest jerry quensel merc clone that will blow minds everywhere.....even the castro district!
Yeah flea was always a creative individual. I'm sure you've heard the stories about the famous melting face James Dean painting rumored to be hanging in a black hole on Treat St. The painting is kind of a mix between Worhol and Salvador Dali.... so they say. Who's caveman? Does here wear a wilgan?
I'd like to thank you all for the input on the Merc !!! Really nice to hear from you all ! I asked lurker mick to mail the article out of Hop Up March 1952 and here it is.I guess it's interesting to read. Thanks again Mick ! And another pic.Different angle.Obviously from the same photo shoot. This is the pic out of the Rodder's Journal No.13. Rick, thanks for the update on Scott Guildner's Merc.(By the way, how's your '60 Olds looking now ?) Here's a pic of the Merc from 2001.Sorry for the bad quality.Too bad there ain't no pics of the finished car available... I never saw anymore pics in mags of it since that time. It's such a good looking Merc. How's that come ? One more pic.It looks mighty good.Even from above... I'd like to build a '49 Merc sled too.Looking for a solid project car for one year now but without any success...
For anybody interested, here are the pics out of the Hop Up article in better quality. Thanks again lurker mick ! And the man who's responsible for all this magic. His Merc ain't bad either... Let's see some more info & pics.
Another pic of the Quesnel Mercury.HAMB member Rikster mailed it to me.He still seem to have posting problems with the new HAMB for whatever reason.Rik,I hope you get it "fixed" soon.So this is actually a contribution by him.Thank you ! I really wonder if there's anybody who might have even some interior shots or what about color shots at all ?
I thought it's also interesting to see the profile of this beautiful Merc. This shot is also out of the Barris Kustom Techniques book but I actually got this copy out of RIKSTER's fotki album. So again, the "thank you's" go to him !
I received these shots from lurker mick last night and just wanted to add them here.Thought it would make the collection even more "complete"... The pics are out of a magazine called "Popular Science" from 1951 and show the Quesnel Merc still in white primer.Really like the pic where it's parked next to a stock '50. Lurker Mick seems to have a GREAT collection of old mags and pics and Mick,I again want to thank you for sending them !!!
Paso is over an here's the "Mejia Merc".The Metal-Flake Man is quick to point out this is NOT a Quesnel clone. It's build in essence of it...and it fuckin' rules !
I had to resurrect this old thread. This has to be one of the most beautifully chopped mercs of all time. What ever happened to this Merc after Jerry Quesnel owned it?
If you want more stuff about Jerry quesnel go to Riksters thread ...... my sacramento merc gathering photos. There is plenty of info about Jerry on that one.
There are some people that say the car still exits today... somewhere in the dessert. But there is no proof of this, at least I have not seen it.
I agree, this is the best one ever, as perfect as the Quesnel car but just a little better. While I am not a big fan of actual clones, I would love to have seen the Mejia car finished in a deep, almost black purple as a further nod to the inspiration car.
HAHA it does look black in a lot of pictures. Here is one from Rikster that gives you a better idea of the color.
Here is another one I took at the Sacramento Merc Gathering... It shows a bit better the deep purple/eggplant color on it.
