So I found this old Chevelle four door wagon which I believe is a 64, only about 1/4 mile from my childhood home...never even knew it was there...anyway, since it's a moredoor, I was wondering if anyone has taken one and built a 2 door or better yet a sedan delivery...I can get the car for nothing, so it's definitley peaking my interest...Please post any build pics or suggestions that you might have ...Thanx

Chevy built 2 door Chevelle wagons in '64 and '65 but they are few and far between. When I was a kid there was a 2 door near here with a supposedly factory L-79 327/350HP, 4 speed and 3.73 posi. The last time I saw it the Midwest winters had pretty much consumed it and that was 30 years ago.

The '65 4 door wagons were very popular in Super Stock, unfortunately only the 64's would be considered "HAMB friendly" and even that is a stretch according to some here.

Actually haven't been able to figure out what year it is exactley...what are the differences between a 64 and a 65...one thing that i do know for sure, is that it has a body line in the roof running from side to side...has a slight peak in it facing the front...not sure if this helps at all...

    It may be a little new, but, I had a 65 with a 220/283 engine and a 4 speed.

64's are a flatter, blunt nose along the front of the hood

65's have a pronounced peak in the nose of the hood and grill.

1964 has small extentions on the bottom of the front fender 65's don't. And then there is the flatter grille leading edge of the fender as stated.

I've had a few 64/65 wagons. I wish i never sold them cause it seems that people are getting decent money for em. My wife wants one and i cant find an affordable and clean wagon. I've always wanted to do an AF/X version of a wagon. Maybe A Blown, injected rear engine!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure someone will refute this, however, when I lived in Manteca Ca. in the late 70's there was a guy there with a factory 65 Chevelle sedan delivery, I knew about the 2dr. wagons and asked the owner if it was converted. He claimed (claimed) a family member ordered it that way new. Possibbly from Tradeway Chevrolet in Manteca. I don't know.

I looked at a '65 2 door this spring, but wow, it was in rough shape, although it did have the roof rack, so cool!

Wow, these two photos bring back some memories for me. In 1970, one of my sisters married a guy with a black 65 Chevelle SS. It had come from the factory with a 327, 4 speed, but he blew it up drag racing and replaced it with a 396 with L-88 cam, heads, etc.

Two years later, another sister married a guy with a dark blue (almost black) 64 Chevelle SS with 283/4 speed.

It's like going to a family reunion to see those two cars next to each other like this. I thought, based upon the cars the guys drove, that my sisters had picked good guys, and time has proven that correct, as they are celebrating 38 and 40 years of marriage this year!

Here's mine, a '65 two-door, complete and very solid builder. I've got it in dry storage waiting it's turn, but I'm getting older...

I never got a pic but my neighbor had a 64, 2dr. he bought it in the late 60s and drove it up till the mid 90s when it was toatled in an accident. His was a plain one metallic blue with 6 and manual trans. it was a rough looking old car but i always liked it. he always took it fishing and camping he is in his 80s and only has had 3 cars in his life a 48 chevy coupe, the 64 wagon and now a rusty 73 chevelle wagon.

The 64 and 65 Chevelle wagons both 2 door and 4 door have nice lines. GM looked back in time and tried to use the roof styling of the 50s, I'm sure they did. My 55 had the slanted B pillar like the 2 door wagons did.

So why were the 65 wagons so popular with racing? Why were they more desirable than the 64?

I know I've never seen another one. Someone obviously modified the wagon. It did look cool though.

  30. Funny you compare it to the 55-6-7's.. 64 & 65 Chevelles were styled to appeal to the owners of the Tri 5's. I remember seeing a thread on a 65 Malibu Wagon, here on the HAMB. It had the doors, an a portion of the rear quarters, off a 65 Malibu, 2dr Hardtop. I want to say, Kiwi Kev was the fabricator. Different for sure
