"The Canning Stock Route had been opened up for the droving of stock
from the Kimberley to the south of Western Australia. A droving party was
attacked on 19 April, 1911, near Well 37. Two white drovers and an Aboriginal

Pilmer in excessive heat, and completed in 92 days. On arrival at the site of
the murders they buried the stockmen. On 29 October the ?rst of a series of
encounters occurred between the party and hostile Aborigines, culminating in

    New South wales - 1920's:

"The police van was known as a 'Paddy Wagon' or sometimes as a 'Black Maria' in the colloquial usage of the day. Both terms are thought to be of American origin. 'Paddy' referring to the high numbers of Irish-born policemen, and 'Maria' (pronounced Mariah) possibly in reference to a notorious black madam from Boston, whose guests made frequent trips in the wagon."

    This wouldn't happen today:

I promised Sunroofcord some Tudhope shots a few days ago--sorry for the delay. I'm still looking for some actual photos. These are from the 1913 catalogue.

Col. Thomas Edward Lawrence, "Lawrence of Arabia," riding
a Brough Superior, much like the one he was killed on when
trying to avoid two boys on a country road near his home near
Wareham in 1935. Profoundly affected by the tragic loss, Dr.
Hugh Cairns successfully campaigned for use of helmets by
both military and civilian riders. Photo is THANKS to the
    WikiMedia Commons project!

Yow-ee, Tee! Seriously, was auto insurance common in England
around 1908? Or would the owners just have had to eat the cost
    of repair/replacement?

It would be my guess that in that day and age the folks who could afford a car like this one, could afford to repair/replace it.

Some trade cards with Packards: 1913 limo/taxi in Springfield, MA on left, and a 1926 model 333 sedan in Philadelphia on right.
