Best lessons learned from the HAMB?

Here are the ones I have picked up over the past several years:

    1. Anything is possible. ANYTHING.
4-door into a 2-door? Build a body from scratch? Make a sedan into a coupe? etc., etc., etc. no problem! I now fully understand that once you start cutting and welding the only limits are your imagination, your patience, and your time.

    2. Getting it right often means doing it over.
I used to think that the top-notch guys had talents and skills that I could never possess. Paying close attention has revealed that the main thing separating me and them is the willingness to stop and fix things along the way, even if it means doing something again or starting all over. That is a valuable lesson.

    3. Keep working on it until it is done.
Related to #2 - the biggest difference in the cars that turn out okay and the ones that turn out beautiful is not how well they were started, but how well they were finished. Keep going until it is really done and it'll knock your socks off. Stop when it's "good enough" and it will always fall short.

What are the best lessons you have learned from the HAMB?

I don't think that was learned here.:)

  5. What I've learned from the HAMB: SBC's are lame, over-utilized, and not worthy of being put in a 'traditional hot rod' regardless of how much power for the dollar they produce and how readily available cheap performance parts are.

(hope you can sense the sarcasm because I was laying it on pretty thick :D )

Check this one out .....rat rods with sbc are kool.
Whats coming is called gettin flamed........hehehehehe!!!!

  11. I've learned that tradition stopped a long time ago (possibly in the 50's or 60's....maybe as late as 1974...depends on who you talk to) and that it will never happen again.

Also the term "Street Rod" is actually derogatory....athough heavily celebrated in previous decades by many.

Mainly it was great to find that there were so many people out there that like old style customs. Who knew?
In addition to learning a lot about rods, customs and the history thereof, fabrication, etc., I've learned a lot about people - and the pack mentality.
No matter what you say or do, someone out there will hate it, ha :)
All good stuff to know, really.

Oh yeah, I forgot this one: don't answer a question unless you KNOW you have the right answer.
Second-hand information seems to always turn out to be wrong, doesn't it?

That this thread has too much Drama.:)

  20. Seriously though. Nearly anything you ever wanted to know about building a hot rod can be found here. Anything you ever thought about doing to a car has likely been done and there's a 'How To' thread dedicated to it. And if you can't find the answer you can post a thread about it and someone will post pretty quickly that they actually did this before on a similar application and provide you with a link to the HAMB thread which provides details and pics of 'how to'.

Spray can of brake cleaner and heat could equal death. And as much as I use MSDS sheets for aircraft I'm lax at home. Roger

I've learned not to sell anything on this site...seems everybody wants everything for nothing, but then once they buy it, they flip it for double or tripple!

The people that consider themselves core HAMB people at shows are clicky.

I have never experienced anything even remotely close to that. I've met lots of HAMBers over the years and almost instantly it's like we are old friends.

OK, I take it back, some were friendly, some not so much. Maybe it's jealousy.
